What you can do to help right now: look up 287(g) ASAP to see if your local law enforcement has a contract with ICE. There is usually no expiration date on such contracts, which means they can be cancelled at any time with enough pressure from the local community.

For no reason today i am thinking about how in the Wicked novels, the Wizard of Oz imposes a ban on talking Animals existing in public, bars them from holding teaching jobs (or any job really), and 20 years after he leaves Oz and the laws are repealed, Animals still don't have teaching jobs again.
