Trump is hawking merchandise in the White House. Since there are apparently no moral or legal guardrails at the moment, it's amazing he's not focusing on the billions he could make in the stock and currency markets based on his tariff whims. I'm sure his cronies are.

Especially when two of the countries you’re targeting - Canada and Mexico - already signed trade agreements with you, and now you’re breaking them. Why should they cooperate again?
A problem with using tariffs for extortion is that every other country on earth knows you can do it again, and again, and again.
The second they give in, they signal that tariffs are an effective way to get them to reverse or alter decisions, and they can never put that genie back in the bottle.

Trump has called for the end of birthright citizenship. Also, he wants proof of citizenship to vote. What if he got both of those demands? Voters would have to prove their birth in USA and prove their parents had lawful permanent status at the time of their birth. Who has that proof?

I realize now that I have a “trade deficit” with the store across the street. I walked over and bought a jug of milk. The store is abusing me and I’m tired of subsidizing it by buying something at a fair price that I want. I’m going to apply a tariff that will raise the future price of milk for me.
