One of my favourite bookshops. This is awful. Please support them (more than usual) in coming weeks.

A few online orders or in-store book purchases would be a nice way to support Books Upstairs after this horrible attack. Who does this? To an independent book shop?

Very sorry to hear about death of Manchán Magan. This article inspired us to go to Ethiopia on our honeymoon and we were definitely not the only ones who visited because of him. Have always enjoyed his writing and admired his integrity. RIP.

Ireland has lost a mountain of libraries with the passing of Manchán Magan. A brilliant, gentle, inspiring treasure of a spirit.

As a friend said last night, “He described the Irish language as potent and infinite, but that was him too.”

You can't call yourself 'pro Palestine' and be anti-immigrant, btw. You either care about other people, or you don't.

Disgusting to see certain people visibly disappointed that the Carlow gunman was White as they called it a "suspected terrorist attack" when no one knew anything about it. What kind of sicko hopes for a tragic event that they can weaponise for hate?

We're all guilty of leaning into Amazon when needs must, but we need to wean ourselves off old, difficult habits, now more than ever.

If you read this, share a cool Irish business, designer, craftsperson or indie retailer we can support instead, and let's get a list together.

Irish businesses will struggle to compete with Amazon ie, both online and in the high street.

Shop direct with your Irish retailers, who already exist.

RIP Pat Ingoldsby a much loved poet. Connected with people of all ages. Probably the first real life poet many of us saw as kids on TV or on the streets of Dublin selling his poetry collections.

Need to stop making ridiculous, unattainable New Year's resolutions this year, like trying to make Colin Firth in the role of Mr. Darcy (1995) fall in love with me, and focus on new, sensible ones, like trying to make Richard Armitage in the role of Mr. Thornton (2004) fall in love with me
