I think @scarlettmcnally.bsky.social is absolutely right in this piece from the @bmj.com last month.

Some bits of healthcare can be simple and transactional, but a lot is much more nuanced, and there’s an important role for senior wise clinicians.

Building Critical Mass for Palliative Care Research | Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre
The world population is ageing and, with the growth of multi-morbidities, UK deaths are expected to increase by 40% by 2040. New models of care and treatments are urgently needed to improve quality of life for the significantly increased number of people living with life-limiting illnesses. Yet research activity remains extremely limited and neglected, with a severe lack of critical mass of academics and research centres to build the palliative care evidence base. www.hyms.ac.uk/wolfson

Government doesn't know how reliant it is on independent adult hospices for the provision of palliative and end-of-life care.

With more people dying in England each year, the sustainability of independent hospices is of national importance.

There is no good scientific evidence linking paracetamol (Tylenol) to autism.

A 2024 Swedish study of 2.4 million births found no relationship whatsoever between exposure to paracetamol in utero & subsequent autism.
