Bobina update: She. Is. Home. The shelter has worked hard to find what works for this girl, & she has been matched!! Rubber mats have made her a walking machine. @darthbluesky.bsky.social is hibernating real soon so wanted to end the season on a high note! Wobbly, yes! Given up on love, no! Xo Bobs

Bobina’s in the Halloween spirit 👻 This happy girl is still seeking her family. This shelter is also now offering 1 year free vet services, in case you know of anyone able to welcome a disabled kitteh… she is truly the loviest girl.

Bobina update (CW - wobbly kitty syndrome depicted): Still seeking her family, and trying a new accessible litter box. Cerebellar hypoplasia is no joke, but she’s the happiest girl as long as you provide 1, snuggles, and 2, wormies.

I’ve lived a lot of places, and only call a couple “home.” This is one. The courage of these folks to come out to protest in a place like this is unmatched. The kindness and support WVians show their neighbors, no matter where they come from, is incredible. These people didn’t vote for this.
Fairmont, WV - No Kings 2 protest. More than 300 people turned out to an overwhelmingly positive response from passers-by!

Meet Bobina. She has “wobbly cat syndrome,” a condition that affects her balance. It’s the only life she’s ever known, & is a happy, silly girl who loves snuggling. Sadly, she’s landed back at the shelter. Note: bored by health policy 😂

If you’re self-employed, a farmer, an early retiree, who isn’t super “online,” and you’ve just learned your premium is going to go up by $30K next year, would you be signing up for ACA in a couple weeks? Even if there is a change now, millions who have counted on Obamacare for decades will be lost.
It’s ‘too late’ to extend ACA subsidies without major disruptions, some states and lawmakers say

States are worried Congress missed its opportunity to extend enhanced ACA subsidies and lower premiums before consumers start picking plans in a few weeks

- Doc ppl are eligible to *purchase* insurance but the admin is cutting who, like refugees & asylees, even more
- Doc ppl have a 5yr wait for Medicaid
- Dems want affordability & accessibility extended *for those who qualify.*

@darthbluesky.bsky.social update: So sad to report that Frankie is still @ the shelter today, 9/29. But that just means his fam is still out there! If you know anyone in the SW who wants a silly floof, check out his profile (he’s still open, give them a call!)

@darthbluesky.bsky.social can we all cross our fingers for Frankie today? He was in a house fire and has been at the shelter for many weeks. He’s such a love bug, he deserves the best family and I think they may have arrived today. I go back Monday and I’m hoping he’ll be gone to his forever home 🤞

Ironically, I’m celebrating my 14th cancerversary today - the day my bone tumor was cut out of my knee. And I prob wouldnt be here without leucovorin. Osteosarcoma patients depend on this drug for the best outcomes. The inevitable shortages will terrorize patients and even endanger their lives.

TRIPLE vaxxed! So excited to get my COVID shot today, along w flu & tetanus (was due -every 10 years, y’all!). If you can, I highly recommend doing it now. I usually wait a bit longer, but ACIP (federal vax committee) meets next week, & we can’t predict what the RFK admin will do as far as access.

When I was helping people navigate the ACA marketplace, my clients w/ subsidies included retired coal miners, the owner of the local diner, and parents caring for their disabled adult children. Congress has had plenty of time to act. They know what’s at stake. Rs are *choosing* to increase costs.
Republicans said their tax cuts cost nothing, because they just extended provisions already in place

By that logic, extending ACA temporary subsidies -- and sparing millions from insurance premium spikes -- would also cost nothing

Will Rs apply the same logic? www.thebulwark.com/p/a-massive-...
A Massive Health Care Shock Is Coming
And there is little time—and maybe not enough will from Republicans—to avert it.

And there will be 90% fewer Navigators to help enrollees review their options and find other coverage. Navs, under the ACA, provide free, expert, community-based, trusted, unbiased health insurance counseling, education, and outreach. Trump slashed their funding as one of his first acts in office.

This will cost lives. Most undocumented AND documented immigrants are only eligible for emergency Medicaid - to cover the cost of stabilizing them when they are literally dying. How many will forgo necessary care due to fear of deportation? This is heinous.

This is correct. Any candidate cynically “triangulating” on trans kids is a non-starter, and now is the time to say so. There’s still so much time to advance candidates that DON’T suck.
I will never, ever vote for Gavin Newsom. Ever, under any circumstances. I don't care if he becomes the Dem nominee, he's still not getting my vote.
On a recent podcast Gavin Newsom tells Shawn Ryan how the Trans sports issue opened the door for him to change his mind on GAC for Trans Youth.

As someone who adored him since 2004 and voted for him 5 times, I can't wait for him to leave office.

There is no way I will be voting for him a 6th time.

People always ask me how to support their friend/family member dealing w cancer. This is it. I don’t know this person, but a glance at their story leads me to believe we may have gotten the same horrific diagnosis. Food is the best medicine & relieves so much hardship for patient AND caregivers 🌻
A close friend of mine just had a major health setback. His family needs support. If you want to buy DoorDash for a family going through some tough things I know they would deeply appreciate the help.

There are 3 weeks between these 2 pics. In the 1st, I’m about to be uninsured. In the 2nd, I’m about to be diagnosed with bone cancer. Thanks to the ACA, I was able to join my parents’ plan and get the care I needed to survive some really crummy treatment. Happy bday to the law that saved my life.

So much ACA sabotage in one proposed rule. Long story short: make enrollment less available and more onerous so people give up trying to get covered. Oh, and also take coverage away from DACA recipients, who just got access in Nov.

“This change will directly benefit people enrolled without subsidies who pay the full premium for their health insurance.” So less than 10% of enrollees will benefit. This will essentially kill the program 😞

Work requirements and per capita caps aren’t the only potential cuts looming for Medicaid. While reductions in federal funding will create risk in all expansion states, some have enacted trigger laws to make it a quick break:
