Shropshire Council deputy leader has confirmed that the Castle Street two way cycleway (in red) has being axed from Shrewsbury's Station Gyratory changes.

Disappointing but not entirely surprised, the project seemed to be a bit of a hot mess. Lets do it properly next time.

We have already cancelled as much of the next stage as we can, which was going to be a two-way cycle lane all the way up to Pride Hill, downscaling it to only go up to Meadow Place. This will use easily removable street furniture (think Town Walls speed bumps) rather than permanent concrete.

Shropshire has a new parkrun. Great! Shame its inaccessible to anyone outside a car. 👎
Getting there by public transport There are no public transport links available. Getting there on foot Due to its location, Haughmond Hill is not accessible on foot. Getting there by road Haughmond Hill is located just off the B5062 between Shrewsbury and Newport, Shropshire. It is approx. 5 miles from Shrewsbury and 15 miles from Telford. There is a pay and display car park on site - card only or via the RingGo parking app. Regular visitors should consider purchasing a yearly membership for just £38 of free parking and benefits. As the car park is small, please arrive early and/or consider car sharing where possible. Unfortunately due to the rural location there is no alternative parking available.

Shrewsbury greening scheme looks promising. Hopefully a road diet to undo some of the mistakes Thomas Telford made 200 odd years ago.
‘Green Street at Abbey Foregate’ project is the first in a series of innovative yet practical interventions that deliver the Shrewsbury Movement and Public Space Strategy (MPSS). The project will enhance the town’s natural environment by ‘greening’ and repurposing road space and its associated car parking dominance through the introduction of new routes through, and seating within, green and accessible spaces for the benefit of residents and visitors that prioritises pedestrians and cyclists. Focused on the road running between The Abbey, one of the town’s most prominent heritage assets and a row of shops, restaurants and a public house it will deliver 1,080m2 of new, improved and accessible local green spaces, with the potential to foster investment and increase economic growth in the area. I've been looking at my photos and this is by far my favourite: children cycling with heavy goods vehicles. This is why we do it.

Kinda nice to see my local council using Open Street Map for some of its maps, especially when I can see some of the changes I've made make an appearance.
Not so cool that they've failed to properly attribute OSM contributors in any of its images.

This new road got approved yesterday. It doesn't have a cycle path along it because the application is for "enabling infrastructure". Committee discussed when active travel provision should actually be defined with no apparent precedence set.

Unfortunately the new access road (going south) looks like this. The junction is made extra wide because it is straddling a bus stop.☹

🧵 Initial thoughts of "Sue West", a new council led housing development for #Shrewsbury. It promises to be an "Sustainable Urban Extension" with more solar and affordable housing than normal - great! shrewsburywesturbanextension.co.uk

An unmarked road junction for The Lilies and Rose Place residential development in Shrewsbury. Each side of the road has a different developer with their flags and advertising boards. The location of the pedestrian crossing on each side is different.

Spotted my first Shrewsbury Moves subscription e-bike in the wild. Looks great. 👀

Happy to see some filtering and road narrowing hidden in the application documents for Shrewsbury's Riverside development. It'll improve pedestrian access to the town and make the new public space a much nicer place to be.

I believe there is significant demand for car-free, walkable neighborhoods in this country, and I think we should make it legal for every city and town to create them.
A charming narrow street in a European town, lined with brick buildings featuring gabled roofs and outdoor seating areas for cafes. The scene includes hanging signs for businesses, greenery, and a tree providing shade. People are seated at tables, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere under a bright blue sky.

In the spirit of seeking out whatever chinks of light I can find on a dark day, I have a new favourite repainted comms cabinet.
