Active travel advocate in Shropshire.
Shropshire Council deputy leader has confirmed that the Castle Street two way cycleway (in red) has being axed from Shrewsbury's Station Gyratory changes.

Disappointing but not entirely surprised, the project seemed to be a bit of a hot mess. Lets do it properly next time.

I'm guessing this is what the council mean by priority. Via www.greatercambridge.org.uk/asset-librar...

Shropshire now has 7 parkruns, only 3 are in urban areas. The rest are attached to tourist attractions that only serve the people who drive to them.

Shropshire has a new parkrun. Great! Shame its inaccessible to anyone outside a car. 👎

I'm sure people will moan about the loss of free parking spaces but really hard to justify them when there is a large 80p/h car park nearby.

Shrewsbury greening scheme looks promising. Hopefully a road diet to undo some of the mistakes Thomas Telford made 200 odd years ago.

We have some in Shropshire, they're disconnected and most of the signs are looking a bit sad now.

CPRE has some information on them. I think the legislation is nearly 20 years old, it would be interesting to see if they've had a positive effect. www.cpre.org.uk/wp-content/u...

I believe this is Shropshire's first bike traffic light

The article is a bit misleading, HE actually praised the development and doesn't object to the application going through.
I think their concern is about the old town wall buried under it and the building facades used in the visuals not fitting in.

New festoon lighting in #Shrewsbury✨

Absolutely. I was thinking of the one in Liverpool as a good example of a parkway station.
It is obviously still well used by drivers but regular busses and potentially great active travel options (loads of secure cycle parking but didnt seem too well used when I went there).

Kinda nice to see my local council using Open Street Map for some of its maps, especially when I can see some of the changes I've made make an appearance.
Not so cool that they've failed to properly attribute OSM contributors in any of its images.

The developer's website also makes some vague claims about "improved accessibility". I REALLY hope they don't use dropped kerbs like they've done previously, otherwise it will be a nightmare to traverse over given how dense the off-road parking is in some places.

It's hard to ignore the amount of greenwashing on the website. Are the "generous open spaces" there because the council wants them to be or are they there to help fulfil statutory drainage requirements for the big new road project they're trying to push through?

The layout itself looks ok with (I think) two modal filters for walking, cycling and emergency access. Disappointingly the council seem set on having the cycle paths going outwards to piggyback a new "relief" road instead of inwards to where the nearby amenities are.

🧵 Initial thoughts of "Sue West", a new council led housing development for #Shrewsbury. It promises to be an "Sustainable Urban Extension" with more solar and affordable housing than normal - great! shrewsburywesturbanextension.co.uk

Must be some serious beef between these housing developers if they can't even get their crossings to line up. o_0

Spotted my first Shrewsbury Moves subscription e-bike in the wild. Looks great. 👀

Unfortunately the new access road (going south) looks like this. The junction is made extra wide because it is straddling a bus stop.☹

Happy to see some filtering and road narrowing hidden in the application documents for Shrewsbury's Riverside development. It'll improve pedestrian access to the town and make the new public space a much nicer place to be.

I've tagged a few like this as private car parks on Open Street Map. Probably not the best use of my time 🙃
