"fire engines have been "using the cycle lane" to get away from jams"
Ok good.
"[Councillor] Minnery said that this itself was not 'not a solution' and could be a risk to cyclists who are hard of hearing or wearing headphones."
Excuse me, what?

Shropshire Council deputy leader has confirmed that the Castle Street two way cycleway (in red) has being axed from Shrewsbury's Station Gyratory changes.

Disappointing but not entirely surprised, the project seemed to be a bit of a hot mess. Lets do it properly next time.

Shropshire has a new parkrun. Great! Shame its inaccessible to anyone outside a car. 👎

Shrewsbury greening scheme looks promising. Hopefully a road diet to undo some of the mistakes Thomas Telford made 200 odd years ago.

Bravo to @juliandean99.bsky.social for discussing active travel shortfalls at today's planning committee meeting.👏 Amendment to have a "framework travel plan" for Shrewsbury's Riverside development approved.

I've been looking at my photos and this is by far my favourite: children cycling with heavy goods vehicles. This is why we do it.

Kinda nice to see my local council using Open Street Map for some of its maps, especially when I can see some of the changes I've made make an appearance.
Not so cool that they've failed to properly attribute OSM contributors in any of its images.

This new road got approved yesterday. It doesn't have a cycle path along it because the application is for "enabling infrastructure". Committee discussed when active travel provision should actually be defined with no apparent precedence set.
Unfortunately the new access road (going south) looks like this. The junction is made extra wide because it is straddling a bus stop.☹

🧵 Initial thoughts of "Sue West", a new council led housing development for #Shrewsbury. It promises to be an "Sustainable Urban Extension" with more solar and affordable housing than normal - great! shrewsburywesturbanextension.co.uk

Must be some serious beef between these housing developers if they can't even get their crossings to line up. o_0

Happy to see some filtering and road narrowing hidden in the application documents for Shrewsbury's Riverside development. It'll improve pedestrian access to the town and make the new public space a much nicer place to be.

What town centre redevelopment could/should look like. #Shrewsbury
I believe there is significant demand for car-free, walkable neighborhoods in this country, and I think we should make it legal for every city and town to create them.
