I'm not so easily shocked these days, but it might actually be shocking that the vice president of the United States is as violently, smugly, publicly racist as he is.

Remember when Presidents did national speeches for emergencies or times where a nation needs to hear from their leader?

Who knew that the Allstate commercial we’d have to watch 1 million times during games this year with Meghan Trainor and Patrick Mahomes was actually trying to tell us something. #mahomes

Imagine calling yourself a small government conservative and yet contorting yourself into thinking this is in any small bit OK.
One of the most blatantly authoritarian threats in a Trump term full of them

I know we’re going in circles but it is abundantly clear that they have literally no idea, let alone a plan, to fix their own mess.

Nobody is at the wheel, it is the first social media AI presidency and they drove themselves into a blind alley.
Johnson: "It's true that in previous shutdowns, many or most furloughed employees have been paid for the time they were furloughed, but there is new legal analysis - I don't know the details, I just saw a headline - but there are some legal analysts saying that might not be appropriate or necessary"

I forget who said it initially but yeah, the biggest question you could ask anybody concerning American politics right now is "Who was president in 2020?"
Whoops
Don't ya just love live TV?

I suppose folks are now beginning to understand how Trump may have navigated himself into serial bankruptcies.

May I introduce you to the financial panic of 1873? 1893? 1907?
The counter-revolution that ended Reconstruction?
The introduction of Jim Crow segregation?
The "Mississippi Plan" of 1890?
The Populist revolt?
The first nationwide strike on the railroads in 1877? Pullmans strike? Homestead?
Trump: "You know, our country was the strongest, believe it or not, from 1870 to 1913. You know why? It was all tariff based. We had no income tax." (This is nonsense.)

Monstrously destructive, incoherent, ill-informed tariffs based on fabrications, imagined wrongs, discredited theories and ignorance of decades of evidence. And the real tragedy is that they will hurt working Americans more than anyone else.

There's something grimly ironic about Trump, whose criminal guilt was quite clear based on public information, managing to land in the White House rather than a prison cell thanks to dragging out Due Process, now handwaving process away and assuming the right to brand criminals by fiat.

Part of the lesson here is that Trumpists, like many bullies, don’t handle it well if you stand up to them rather than caving. If Trump or Vance or their supporters had any character this petulant display and Zelenskyy’s defiance would be humiliating to them.
Zelenskyy gives a thumbs up after getting berated by a visibly agitated Trump

The lesson for everyone still going on and on about how we can’t stop Trump is that you are wrong. Public pressure works. Pushing Congress works. Stop whining and start yelling. Hegseth and Gabbard cannot be confirmed.

so much of the right-wing backlash in this country is driven by indignation at the idea that there should be consequences for being a shitbag. it is truly a shitbag uprising.

Here’s something that everyone needs to know - the evangelical support that put DJT in the White House was the result of at least 40 years of hard core back door political networking & campaigning by leaders who saw the church as an army of foot soldiers to lead, not as souls to shepherd.

My plea to reporters is to not call it the Department of Government Efficiency. It is not a Department. It is almost certainly going to a Federal Advisory Committee, and it is very important that reporters accurately convey that Vivek and Elon are working on an advisory committee.
