Some buildings wear their history lightly, changing with each new occupant, shaped by the hands of time. Others remain stubbornly unchanged, quietly holding their stories in place. rmbconservation.co.uk/news-posts/p... #heritage #buildingconservation #medieval #history

Portal to the past. Alderman Stairs, featured on John Rocque’s map of 1746, also known as Alderman Parsons Stairs & Lady Parsons Stairs, probably named after a previous owner and his wife. Connecting river to land, these steps once bustled with people & activity, now quiet, eerie & full of ghosts.

In the 1750s two empires at either end of Eurasia started work on these two wooden structures. A stark illustration of different spending priorities and the cultures that shaped them.

In the UK, we mark the failure of Guy Fawkes to blow up Parliament by… setting fire to him every year🧨 Bonfires blaze, effigies burn, and the skies crackle with fireworks.
In Malta, any excuse is firework-night 😁 Here's a snap from my last visit - from Sliema to Valletta

Found this in the garden with my metal detector.
Quite common WW1 army button-/-but I think I know who this belonged to. When I looked at the 1921 census I found a lady and her three children were living in our cottage at this time.
