I hate Christmas, not least because all manner of foolish folk send me cards with robins on them. Hateful birds. Don't they know robins are a death omen? Who in their right minds sends you one of them through the post? The Royal Mail ought to make it illegal. – Shirley Deyne #VOH

'Farewell, adieu dear Christmas Ghosts
Back to the shade realm you must go
But do not quail & have no fear
For you return with each passing year
In the meantime, there's the all seasons crew
Everyday phantoms like me & you.'👻

Last day today to download this fascinating sounding book in this great series
It's very exciting to say that Coastal Gothic, 1719–2020 has just been published in @universitypress.cambridge.org's Elements in the Gothic series – and it's currently open access and *free* to download until the end of December!

Last read book of the year, 'Howls from the Dark Ages', an anthology of medieval horror stories.
The stories are generally more visceral than atmospheric than I expected but very effective, many of the tales will linger with me.

Last photo of the day for me will be my favorite shot of my pet Great horned Owl, Owliver. He hasn't been around as much lately, maybe once a week but he came by daily for almost three months! I'd spend a few minutes to grab a few shots and then let him be.

Goodnight from Cunning Davey Ash, readying himself to year walk the lanes in search of the new year’s secret name. Goodnight from the revellers at The Bell, waiting for the deer-skulled Lord of the Forest to bring in his blessings at the stroke of midnight. Goodnight from Hookland.
