Just a Midwest Law student who has thoughts about the current situation the US finds itself.

All of the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't put the U.S. constitution back together again.
Who is paying for this "renovation?" We are! We are being forced to pay for this even when federal workers aren't getting paid.
As Donald Trump demolishes one of our country's most historic buildings to give himself a gold ballroom, Americans are struggling under Trump's failed leadership.

Don't tell my professors. They seem to think everything is just fine. They also tell me they can predict what SCOTUS will do.
Whether you live in a red state or blue state, Donald Trump is undermining all Americans’ constitutional rights—

And pushing our nation closer and closer to an autocracy.

@merkley.senate.gov is holding the floor to sound the alarm.

Everyone needs to pay attention.
TUNE IN: I’m STILL on the Senate floor exposing Trump’s attempts to trample on the Constitution.

Why do we give any credit to what these two "Justices" say? I get that what they say impacts the law but we don't need to treat what they say as anything more than we do 47.
Alito, joined by Thomas and Gorsuch, suggest that public schools violate the Constitution when they help a student transition (by acknowledging them as trans) without their parents' knowledge or consent.

Would force schools to out trans kids to their parents. www.supremecourt.gov/orders/court...

A federal appeals court on Saturday ruled that National Guard troops could remain in Illinois under federal control. But the appeals court left in place, for now, a ruling by a district court judge on Thursday that bars those troops from being deployed into the streets.
Appeals Court Allows Federalized National Guard, But Leaves Block on Chicago Deployment in Place
An appeals court said National Guard troops could remain under the Trump administration’s control, but left in place an earlier temporary ruling barring troops from deploying into the Chicago area as a legal fight proceeds.

Fun fact this wouldn't even be a talking point with universal health for all.
Exclusive: Military veterans are swamping the U.S. government with dubious disability claims that are exploiting the country’s sacred commitment to compensate those harmed in the line of duty, according to a Post investigation.
How some veterans exploit $193 billion VA program, due to lax controls
The Department of Veterans Affairs spends billions on dubious and even fraudulent disabilities benefits. Meanwhile, some deserving cases wait.

I think it is hilarious that Hegseth is upset about readiness and yet he can't do pull ups. I truly believe in the principle of leading by example but that seems to be the opposite of the current administration.

Secretary Pete Hegseth's new facial hair grooming standards are discriminatory against troops who can't shave for religious reasons and Black and Brown people, who are more likely to have skin conditions that make shaving difficult and painful.

Being in law school right now is so interesting and frustrating at the same time. You have to learn about procedures and rules that used to be standard. But also understand that the current administration is doing things that don't conform to these standards.

This is true at all levels of education. Student progressive groups are growing at an amazing rate. I absolutely love seeing it.
Law school chapters continue to inspire and show up.

"We had record attendance at both of our kickoff events."
"We ran out of food at our introductory event before the event even began."

condemnations of political violence are well taken but it does feel as if some
prominent political commentators are of the view that violence isn’t a part of the history of American politics and that is very much not true.

Yes it most definitely does. But whether others see it that way is a different question.
BREAKING: In what appears to be the first decision to address mandatory detention under the Laken Riley Act, a federal judge in Boston ruled today that detaining an individual solely on the basis of his prior arrest violates due process.

John Deere is struggling to survive in the wake of Trump's tariffs. Net income in its most recent quarter was down 29% from last year. Higher tariffs, primarily on steel but also on aluminum, have cost the company $300 mn so far, with nearly another $300 mn expected by the end of the year.
