Z is for Zebrida, completing the alphabet of #CrabAZ!

This pretty little guy rides around on fire urchins, which are venomous to us. But the crab nibbles its tube feet! Its body shape and colors both match and contrast with the urchin.

But it's not over yet! Come back tomorrow for a bonus post 🦀🧪🦑

Watch what happens to agriculture. Trump-associated vultures and foreign investors are hoping to buy up farmland after widespread failures. This smash-and-grab is a classic trick of corrupt governments.

They no longer need the votes of farmers, so they are now free to wreck USDA, NOAA, etc

I've been a cardholder for over a decade. I'm in Canada but this affects everyone and I've sent my email.
If you're looking for a concrete action to take today--and you're a Visa cardholder--take 2 min and send an email to them today. 👇
If you’re a Visa cardholder you can let them know you won’t be any longer if they do business with fElon. I called and they said they’re taking comments at askvisa@visa.com. Maybe if enough of us complain they’ll pull the deal.

There have now been accounts of trans people being denied a passport even with their assigned sex at birth. Read that again. People are losing their ability to leave the country at all.

We did a scuba dive today to swap out an instrument on one of our offshore moorings. While clearing off the biofouling, we got biofouled, hood to flipper, by caprellid amphipods (aka headbangers). Here’s my leg after moderate scraping… 🦑🧪🌊

We're having a discussion about which interesting animal behaviour would be terrifying on a different species. The rules are

a) it can't be an immediate danger to you
b) it has to be so scary you would stop filming and leave.

Feel free to play along. The current winner is vulture murmuration.

Green-banded broodsacs are parasitic worms infect snails. The worm grows through the snails body, inserting tentacles into the snails eye stalks, and pulsing those tentacles like lures. Birds see these tentacles, consume the snails and complete the parasites life cycle

If you’re in an institution doing any kind of DEI work, the most important thing to do right now is simply call it something else. Change it to “Community Outreach” & then keep on doing the same important work. When they outlaw Community Outreach rebrand it as “Strategic Partnerships,” rinse/repeat.

I and a prominent arachnologist are attempting to save a wildlife preserve here in FL from being bulldozed by making it the type locality for at least one extremely rare jumping spider species which loves it there. It's small, but it's a good thing. Also the species is fabulous:
