Me: "I can't stop reading"

Husband: "You can't stop reading what?"

Me: "No, not like that. If I want to finish my degree, I can't stop reading. There's too much."

More and more of my content consumption is scientific papers about my hobbies.

I just wish targeted ads would understand that I don't need to buy a million dollars of lab equipment, I'm actually just into working out and making bread.

This has been me the last couple of days since I learned I got the #GRFP. Thank you @archaeal.bsky.social and lab, TheRiot Lab, and Randie Bundy for all of your support! I just want to be the best scientist I can be and the coolest research I can do. Right now, it feels like it can happen.

Four years ago, I left my career to follow a dream of becoming a scientist.

Today I submitted my first application for graduate school.

It feels unreal.

New invention: A device that you wear over your head and laptop screen so you can't be distracted by things around you. Blinders in a sense, but extreme. Recommended to wear with noise-cancelling headphones.

Am I the only one that needs this?

I love BASH so much. Anytime I need to do some simple file manipulation in BASH, it's like "Oh, that simple and satisfying language? Yes, please!"

Rewarding myself for presenting today.

I don't have results, it's just a plan, but I'm resolved to present as much as possible for the sake of synthesizing my work and getting feedback along the way.

I really like reading older scientific papers: They are very much written in the style of "gather round, whilst I regale you with tales of my findings and discoveries. I even made a graph for you!"
