Very amateur family historian/genealogist (Irish & English) with a side interest in military stuff too.

Always jam first & it's 'scon' not 'scoan'
I've had a request on Facebook to upload my Ancestry DNA results to FTDNA to see if my DNA matches with others in a particular surname project. How secure is FTDNA? I'm not too worried about how old my surname is but am mildly intrigued #DNA #familyhistory

Very pleasantly surprised today to find my father's army service record in a new release by Ancestry. I now just need someone who can guide me round those cryptic army abbreviations.

I had to smile when I saw he'd gone (to) Deolali at the end 😄

Yay. Priceless. The right column at the right time. And a gleefully English two fingers to the haters.

Just been for an amble to the shops and found that someone's painted St Patrick's crosses on a couple of mini roundabouts. How multicultural we are in the west of Berkshire.

Is there anyone who has knowledge of #nationalhunt racing history in the UK? My father was a jockey in the 1950s and I'd like some information about some of the races/courses he was involved. Maybe some photo recognition too. #familyhistory

A reminder about how much the Brexiteers cared about fishing before it became a talisman for their idiotic campaign.

Nigel Farage attended only 1 of 42 meetings when he was appointed to the EU fisheries committee

1. Here are just a few of the ways in which Starmer’s Labour Party seems determined to alienate its voters and lose the next election. As they pile up, you have to keep pinching yourself and asking, “what the hell is it playing at?” 🧵

I was going to write 'unbelievable', but somehow it's not. Just very bad government, based on poor judgement and/or corruption.
Let's remember this at the next GE. Starmer and Reeves do not deserve a second term.
Growth & employment figures UK Chancellor cited as justification for Heathrow expansion were from a report commissioned by.....Heathrow

It's likely methodologically flawed, failing to look at business flights trend & loss to UK from imbalance of tourist revenues

Reeves’s Heathrow third runway report was commissioned by London airport
The chancellor is under fire after a study cited as evidence for expanding the terminal to boost the UK’s economic growth was ordered by Heathrow itself

I've just watched a few minutes (couldn't take any more) of a colourised version of 'Scrooge', the one with Alistair Sim. It was awful, the definition had all gone from the film. There are many things which can't be improved/enhanced and this is one.

#antiques I'm not sure this is a proper antique but can anyone help & tell if this cup is of any age? It has a nice 'ting' unless you're holding the handle
