The factional grifters will hate this, but the Mamdani-Spanberger-Sherrill axis actually suggests the outlines of a broad, emerging Dem coalition organized around both anti-Trump *and* affordability politics, not a party bitterly divided against itself.
These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.

1. Federal agents from ICE and other agencies are wrongly detaining U.S. citizens, sometimes detaining them for days, on suspicion that they are undocumented immigrants.

The raids are done without search warrants or other procedures designed to protect civil liberties.

Last week, hundreds of heavily armed federal agents descended on an apartment complex in Chicago, arriving in Black Hawk helicopters and moving trucks.

Vance follows a coterie of online Nazis on X, has described Curtis Yarvin as a major intellectual influence, and openly attacks immigrants in blood and soil terms. The response of most of the political press? "Doesn't look like anything to me."
For the last couple of years much of the media has had the most incredible unwillingness to learn literally anything about JD Vance. Never seen anything like it. Active resistance to learning anything about his ideas.
jesus man, tell me you have no idea who Claremont is or JD Vance's record as a postliberal

As a retired National Guard member told our friends at @revealnews.org in June, Trump's co-opting of the military is putting our democracy in extreme danger.
"Madness": A retired brigadier general slams Trump’s military power grab
On this week’s “More To The Story,” a former National Guard officer discusses the perils of politicizing the military and why the Insurrection Act needs reform.

Today @longlead.com published The Age of Incarceration, a beautiful and timely story about incarceration camps at the end of WWII. Unfortunately a version of camps still exist (Alligator Alcatraz ffs), and listening to the experience of survivors is so critical.

Japanese American Incarceration Survivors Remember What the US Forgot
During WWII, President Roosevelt invoked the Alien Enemies Act and incarcerated 125,000 Japanese Americans. Eighty years later, some of the camps’ last survivors reflect on lives scarred by injustice.
