Is the incoming leader of the California senate sneakily trying to kill a proposed 250 unit apartment building in Santa Barbara via a budget trailer bill?

It certainly seems like it! 🧵

What could a car-lite #LosAngeles look like?

Our current approach isn't working. We invest in expensive transit projects, but fail to build the infrastructure around stations needed to create riders. What could a transit-first community look like?

I present to you, a Westwood for the future:

We added rules to the March Bike Lane Obstruction bracket.

All bike lane obstructions submitted to our database between 3/1 & 3/21 midnight UT will count towards Round 1.

The city with the most reported bike lane obstructions will advance to the next round.

Incredible. Rail fans at LA Union Station heckle and boo Duffy’s remarks at the press conference where he has announced an FRA investigation into CA High Speed Rail.

They yell “Cowards!” “Build the Rail!” and “We Pay Taxes, We Want the Train!” #IWillRide

After hearing 50+ people (who waited 4+ hours to speak) express concerns about the County’s request to suspend state housing laws, Supervisors voted unanimously to approve. We’re very disappointed and will be working with our allies in Sacramento to make sure this goes nowhere.
Late Friday the Board of Supervisors added a motion with the stated goal of helping people recover from the fires; however, a trojan horse is buried that could suspend major progressive housing and transportation laws. MEETING AT 930AM TOMORROW - DETAILS: mailchi.mp/streetsforal...

This is the 6 floor parking structure in #beverlyhills 221N Crescent. It has maybe 500 parking spots (conservatively) and I would bet that it's never been more than 30% full. #parkingwaste #lametro #parkingminimums

USDOT just published a Climate Strategies that Work Playbook. Looks pretty good.

Topics covered include road pricing, parking reform, and transit system integration. For each one, USDOT summarizes research findings and suggests federal funding opportunities.

Time for another reminder — our values & priorities are revealed in countless small but key details in our city design, deliberate decisions that have prioritized cars over people for decades.

It will take equally deliberate decisions to change.

This is also why it's "So ExPeNsIvE" to build modern rail infrastructure. Things like this are tacked on by "concered" lawmakers using whataboutisim to artificially drive up the costs of functioning metro so they can point at it and say, WOW LOOK AT HOW EXPENSIVE IT IS!!!!
It's crazy the extent we go to prevent an extremely rare occurrence like a catastrophic fire in a metro station, and then we just shrug for a much more common occurrence, someone falling in the tracks, saying installing platform barriers even in brand new systems is too complicated or costly.

On this day, 100 yrs ago, cars were given priority over pedestrians in the streets of the US.

It began Jan. 24, 1925, when the 1st "jaywalker" was arrested in Los Angeles.

Until then, it had been a city of walkers, with an extensive street railway network.

Victim shaming started right away...

Want to lower the cost of housing? Stop building on-site parking!

“Studies have shown that providing on-site parking in California raises apartment construction costs by around $36,000 per unit and increases rents by about $200 per month”
