I finished my 5th Kawandi-style quilt recently. It is lap-sized and backed with a vintage wool tartan. The top is mostly quilting cottons and a few wool patches. It is all raw edges and there is no batting. It was easy to stitch and it's lightweight yet cozy.

Stitched up with Valdani Perle to secure hand-dyed wool. The pattern is by Kathy Cardiff from #thecottageatcardifffarms . The latest and greatest project from #woolclub at #fiddlesticksquiltshop .

Progress on my raw-edge-tartan-backed Kawandi. The top is mostly quilting cottons and a few wool scraps. No batting so it will be thin yet warm. As I close in on the center the quilting/piecing goes faster and faster.

Yesterday I used cash to get an iced oat milk latte at a small independent coffee bar, where I met a good friend for a fine stitching session. Then we went to an estate sale where I found this partial set of pretty aged, mostly Eagle Prismacolors. The fonts on the box!

Progress on my Kawandi. It's been nice to sit and stitch the last two evenings. #kawandi #scrapquilting

I'm starting work on a new Kawandi. All raw edges and no batting over a vintage light wool tartan backing. I over-thought this one for so long and now I feel great about finding a path forward. I'm including a fair number of solid quilt cottons from my late mom's stash. I think she would like this.

I absolutely love this idea.

I just finished this Kawandi-style table runner. I thought it would be a quick color study. But the batting, although thin and flexible, was dense. So it was very difficult to sew! I'm off to work on a new one that now will be all raw edges and backed with a light woolen plaid and zero batting!

This was good for my mental health this morning. Grits with add-ins: leftover faux chicken cutlet, San marzano tomato, avocado, fresh salsa, and vegan yolk sauce--The Vegg, sadly no longer available. Oh and Tony Chacere's Creole Seasoning.

I’m sure that will resonate with the average American

Treasury stays silent.

White House stays silent.

Why the secrecy? Time for an explanation and full transparency.

My quilt about women’s reproductive rights has been banned from all American Quilters Society shows this year. It’s been part of a traveling show with SAQA. My artist statement is too long for here. It’s on my website: laurashaw.net/quilts#/your-mother

I like to slow stitch. I hope to do more this winter because it acts as a salve for these strange and frightening times. This is a quilt made according to the Kawandi method.
