"She wants to be flowers, but you make her owls. You must not complain, then, if she goes hunting."
O is for Owl Service from my linocut #folkhorroralphabet inspired by the 1967 novel by Alan Garner which he adapted from Welsh folklore. There’s a television series from 1969 which holds up surprisingly well.

Stones old and new today.
The West Anstey Long Stone, Exmoor.
Half of a 2004 sculpture on the Two Moors Way. A huge piece of granite, half on the edge of Exmoor (shown here), the other on the edge of Dartmoor. Facing each other across mid Devon.

Now here’s a thing.
I am walking a bridlepath on Exmoor tomorrow and there is a ford to cross (packed my towel). I wanted to see what I may be up against and managed to find this superb website with photos of English fords.
Great work John!

My first attempt at lagomorph topiary today.
It was supposed to be a hare, but looks more like a rabbit.

The only flaw in the narrative of The Day of the Triffids is the UK would be immune, as whenever there is interesting celestial phenomena it’s pissing down with rain and overcast.

My tiny H R Wakefield collection (the rest are on Kindle). Left to right: 1934 print of the 1932 first edition; 1961 Ballantine paperback with Richard Powers cover; and a 1935 first edition. For me Wakefield is in the top 5 of ghost story writers.
