@chrislhayes.bsky.social thank you so much for writing The Sirens’ Call. It was the final push I needed to end my twenty year relationship with Facebook.

People gotta get it through their thick skulls: Elon Musk is not actually good at business. Tesla would have died many times over by now, if not for outright fraud. The tactics he is using on government now have destroyed Twitter as an experience and business. His other companies aren't profitable.

HOW TO DESTROY ELON MUSK

I keep hearing people say “Elon Musk is the richest man in the world.”

He’s not, and he’s not even that rich. It’s all on paper.

How much actual money does Musk have in the bank? I’m not sure, but I can guarantee one thing… it’s in the millions, NOT billions.

@tananarivedue.bsky.social I saw a random thread that mentioned your book, the Reformatory, and I bought it. It’s one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s thought provoking, heart breaking and Robert and Gloria will “haint” my head for a long, long time.

The U.S. election was neither free nor fair. It was polluted with the quarter-billion dollars of single profoundly irritating South African weirdo
Elon Musk gave at least $262 MILLION to groups backing Donald Trump since July of this year, according to just-filed FEC reports covering through Election Day.

Just out:
Elon Musk Spent Over a Quarter Billion to Elect Trump
Musk gave nearly $120 million to his pro-Trump America PAC in the final weeks of the campaign, according to a new FEC filing.

Something I’m seeing a lot is that people still think that misogyny is just a mere character flaw. But it’s actually a social system—one that has agents enacting it, offers incentives to participants, and has clear beneficiaries.

For years I’ve watched feminists try and raise awareness about the unrestricted mass influence of incel culture, Andrew Tate, and reactionary misogynistic rhetoric. And now some Dems are saying the problem is identifying “toxic masculinity” too much. I actually think it’s the opposite!

I feel much more numb than in 2016, even though this is worse. I think it’s because I was so shocked then. I am horribly disappointed, but less shocked this time. I fear for our courts, for Ukraine, for RFK Jr. being put in charge of anything public health related… It is a daunting road ahead

The fundamental problem with the Union was that it didn’t have the will to punish the Confederacy. So here we are. Again.
What I’ve learned from being taught Black history from childhood is that It Did Happen Here. Not only have Black people lived under fascist structures for the vast majority of US history, but the Confederacy was the forerunner of fascist ideology and antidemocratic efforts before Europe tried.
I don't know how this ends, but it's now abundantly clear that It Could Happen Here.

I'll never get over the craven blind-eyeing and preemptive supplication from people, groups, and institutions who ought to know better.

I hope voters bail us out. But we've been tested. And too many have failed.

Dudes not understanding what Dobbs meant, if we're luckly, will be the story of 2024.
As the presidential election of 2024 approaches, I’m thinking back to this Andrew Sullivan tweet from shortly after the Dobbs decision. It is inaccurate as history—“cultural polarization” did not start with Roe—and to say it was an inaccurate prediction is to put it mildly.

this was quite literally the point! for all the fearmongering about third trimester abortions they are almost always the heartbreaking result of something being very wrong with a wanted child, and forcing women to carry a baby she knows will die to term is unspeakably cruel

evil people, evil policy
