ME: I took three years of Spanish. I grew up in Los Angeles. Could you please just teach me some more nouns and help me with the subjunctivo?

DUOLINGO: You didn’t know this one phrase that was used exclusively in one part of Caracas 40 years ago, so no. Back to “donde está la biblioteca” for you!

It’s a new year and a lot of folks are resolving to exercise more and live healthier lives.

Some folks will stick it out, others won’t. But either way, you should make newcomers to your gym or studio feel welcome and not be the reason anyone decides to quit working out.

If I had to recommend 3 things to writers (at all levels), I would start with these 3 (with options for adding more):

1. Be persistent.
2. Be curious about the world, people, history, everything. Expand your horizons. Curiosity is your soil, your ocean, your rock, your air.
3. Never stop learning.

There are too many reasons to feel sad this New Year.
Some days the rain just won’t stop falling.
But flood waters recede.
And good people are everywhere, when you look.
Be kind x

"One of the great tragedies of mankind is that morality has been hijacked by religion. So now people assume that religion and morality have a necessary connection. But the basis of morality is really very simple and doesn't require religion at all."

You’re not violating a reading rule if you opt not to finish a book that's not resonating with you. Life is finite and we thus have a finite number of books to read. Reading shouldn’t be a chore. You needn’t feel guilty for ensuring that your time reading is spent reading things that you love.

what if your ideas are as in love with you as you are with them?

what if your creativity spends its days dreaming about you too?

what if art is a co-creation between you (the vessel) & the eternal source of all things?

what if this act of making is the universe experiencing itself through you?

"We read books to find out who we are. What other people, real or imaginary, do and think and feel… is an essential guide to our understanding of what we ourselves are and may become.”
