While the impulse to support free speech by donating to Mangione is admirable, this post has it right. Others need it more.

I wasn't aware till about 5 minutes ago about the existence of The Commissary Fund, and set up a monthly donation right away. Incarcerated people deserve to live with dignity, and providing the means for them to purchase basic amenities and phone calls is crucial. Donate or share if you can.

Remember that a devastating majority of people in prison are either innocent or incarcerated for long periods of time over small crimes usually born out of poverty/desperation

This is a great cause. I've experienced the stress of trying to find where family or friends were moved to in the prison system, then trying to make sure I loaded enough funds to email them AND for them to email me back. There are more folks who just needed help incarcerated than imagined monsters.

THIS. Another idea is contributing to your local bail fund to help get some people out of jail who are stuck and waiting in pre-trial detention

Inmates can also get internet and iPad access through the commissary, fans and heaters, little necessities of life that can make it more bearable.

Prison is inhumane and commissary helps make it a little more tolerable. Please help this organization if you can.

When my nephew was incarcerated, he had to buy everything and much of the money we were able to send him was gobbled up in fees. Soap, toothpaste, floss, basic things necessary for health and sanitation as much as comfort weren't provided.

When you can, always help people feel like human beings.

I’m on this board! We have over 2000 requests for commissary with very little funds to give. This post has brought traction to our org and we can now donate to 43 incarcerated individuals!!!!
