Headed to Haskins 2025, starting our three-year sojourn with the U of Miami! Given Hugh Thomas' work over the past year, it's going to be stellar.

it's important this go as viral as the original story for morale purposes if nothing else. despite the image they project these people are NOT unaccountable. consequences CAN be forced. focused anger and outrage MATTERS.

I'm writing my congressman, posting my stances on issues, and trying to be clear in my resistance to this contemptible turn of events. Like many, I’m also still numb with shock: how did actively choosing the evil course of action become so dear to other Americans?

Word of the Day is ‘uhtcearu’ [ucht-kay-aru, with the 'ch' as in the Scottish ‘loch']:

Old English for ‘the sorrow before dawn', when you lie awake in the darkness and worries crowd your mind.

Marc Bloch revolutionized the way we study history, not just the Middle Ages, though that was his specialty. In WWII he joined the resistance & was eventually captured, tortured & executed by the Gestapo. Entry into the Pantheon means that he will deservedly rest among the greatest heroes of France

Many people have been revisiting LOTR in the wake of the election, which normally would be one of my go-to choices. But I opted for Asimov's Foundation instead. I suppose I'm still hoping the inevitable barbarism can be curtailed.
