From my collection; a lovely little Dutch publication for our liberators, 1945.
It's funny but also quite touching.
You can almost feel the relief, happiness and hope for the future.
Thanks and apologies mixed with tears of joy.
Worth a read:

The Church of Ireland parish church (now a community centre) in Clane, co. Kildare stands where St. Ailbhe's Monastery was once situated. One of the earliest monastic foundations in Ireland, it was founded in the 6th century. #history #medievalIreland

Clane Motte, Clane, co. Kildare is a 12th-century castle. Once, a wooden castle/fort would have sat atop it. Before it became a castle, it was the tomb of Mesgegra, king of Leinster. #MedievalIreland #history

In 1258, Gerald Fitzmaurice Fitzgerald, a son of the 2nd baron Offaly, invited the Franciscans to establish a friary at Clane. He (and not the 1st earl of Kildare, as claimed on their information board) was buried here. #History

According to the information board at Clane Friary (in co. Kildare, Ireland), the 4th baron Offaly (later known as the first earl of Kildare) was buried there in 1287. He died in 1316. That must have been disconcerting for him. #History

Several sources tell me a passel of high profile tech and also finance leaders is making a trip to Mar-a-Lago to read Trump the riot act — um talk common sense — to him on the tariffs. Their million dollar donations to the inauguration is turning into billions in losses.

Around this time, on 3 April 1888, Emma Smith became Jack the Ripper's first victim. She was attacked on the corner of Osborn Street and Brick Lane but managed to get back to her lodging house located nearby. She was rushed to the Royal London Hospital but died the following day. #JacktheRipper

So, it looks like Musk is in charge now, and Trump has been relegated to being a geriatric Oompa-Loompa figure-head. The US is a train going off the tracks, hurtling down a cliff. #presidentmusk #falloftheUSA

I’m reading extracts from the journal of the Rev Thomas Pocock chaplain of the Ranelagh in 1704 - he recounts how he and some others went on shore and 1 of them ‘was affronted by a butcher, upon which he dismounted and can’d him lustyly’ #navalhistory

100% This. Many equate John Wilkes Booth to a lesser Baldwin brother when it comes to his acting in order to make it easier to imagine a “bad actor” murdering Lincoln. In reality, JWB was a leading star of the stage. Talented folks can still be monsters. #skystorians

I love the cover illustration of my new book 'Filthy Queens: A History of Beer in Ireland'. The art was made just for it by the incredible Tobias Hall, but the inspiration behind it is centuries old: The Danse Macabre 🧵
