Awww yay!! I'm so so glad you enjoyed it!
Done! Such an enjoyable journey looking at the central role of women in Irish brewing from ancient times to the beginning of the 20th Century. @braciatrix.bsky.social often had me laughing out loud!

And it's time for my annual PSA that women brewing in UK and Ireland were not removed from the beer trade via en masse witchcraft accusations and the modern witch stereotype doesn't come from their garb either

Oh look Barnabe Rich is at it again- this time with eels. He's the reason my book on Irish beer history is called Filthy Queens after his diatribe against the alewives on Dublin. This is also from his 1610 incredibly bigoted work 'New Description of Ireland' @greenleejw.bsky.social talks about here.
Let's talk eels & colonization!
In the early 17th C. London was growing fast and needed more eels. The surrounding countryside couldn't provide enough.
The Dutch importers could...but the English were nervous of the strong Dutch monopoly.
So where did they look? Ireland. 1/5

Nice to see the use of a juniper stick to stir the crushed malt. That gorgeous brown colour in the mash tun means a good conversion. This all looks very much like our brew day, similar quantities of malt, same mashing process, same aroma. But you have to run a mash to know about the sweet smell.
