Because everything is terrible, please take a moment to enjoy this truly magnificent copywriting that I caught at a bus stop.

It truly brings me so much joy every time I roll by. The sheer creative brilliance in the face of dreary commercialism!

Now that song is in your head. Have a lovely day.

Men are shifting right because Republicans are making their lives worse and telling them to blame women and immigrants.

Democrats should be pointing out this *extremely obvious* dynamic, not trying to peddle a lighter version of the same narrative.

I was just talking to my brother about this. We think that a nationwide economic blackout should occur every week: No Buy Fridays. Most people get paid on Fridays and spend more than any other day of the week. Let's stop doing that, barring necessities. Practice adjusting spending #economicblackout

If you believe that today’s economic blackout won’t have any impact, you might be right, but remember:

I am not buying anything today, but I think this needs to be a sustained effort!! We should have an economic blackout every Wednesday!! We need to create momentum so many others can join in. They can show up by not showing up! It can be a quiet act, but have a huge impact

So I'm on this call with my congressional rep & everyone's asking her what to do about Trump & Musk and her answer is basically, fight back yourselves ("public pressure" "peaceful protest" etc).

Stupid question: Can reps not, like, organize us? Seems they're ideally placed to do this?

Fewer acres/ha are burning in North America compared to historic (pre-1880) tree ring records, even in "record breaking" wildfire years AND these smaller fires are more severe causing more harm to people and nature. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Across many North American forests, recent years with exceptional area burned are not unprecedented when considering the multi-century perspective offered by fire-scarred trees. Nevertheless, abundant...

Part of what frustrates me with native plant darling Doug Tallamy is that he's coming from a very old-fashioned, European perspective on how people and plants interact.

Here's two stories of pre-industrial human interactions w/ plants. Which of the two suggests a collaborative future together?

Maybe I’m delirious because I’m recovering from surgery but this sentence — “Sometimes you can only see a systemic injustice […] out of the corner of your eye.” — feels so brilliantly true right now.

Cannot recommend “Never Say You Can’t Survive” by @charliejane.bsky.social enough for this moment.

History has consistently demonstrated that direct support for authoritarianism is relatively narrow. It thrives through surrender and acquiescence by elite institutions.
Latest from me, on this, the first day of the next four years. We have to resist, now more than ever. @samuelmoyn.bsky.social, Mounk, and Hamid are all completely wrong in their reading of history and their prescription for the present and near future. The stakes are too high to listen to them.

I watched an old talk by the writers of South Park who had some great advice:

If you write out your story beats you want them connected with 'therefore' or 'but'.

What you don't want is 'And then.'

This is great for outlining, editing, and for thinking about synopses.

Do y’all limit what you’re reading while you’re writing? I’m finding there’s a “Fourth Wing” section of my book and a “Handmaid’s Tale” section etc and it’s not pretty. Or do you just write through it and smooth it all out later? Or am I just uniquely susceptible.

Please help out if you can spare a bit. This is a great friend of mine and a stellar journalist who is getting totally shafted by the bad job market and San Diego's ever growing cost of living.
Hate to re-up this, but I'm officially on the verge of losing my pad. Any bit will help, thanks much in advance.
I want to apologize in advance. But I need help getting ahead of rent and some bills. #mutualaid
