This is why I really have no time for the "behind the scenes, Republicans say yadda yadda yadda." This is a public-facing business. If you tell a reporter you don't want to vote "aye" then you vote "aye," who cares?
This is a great point. How many people kept saying there’s no way Patel could get confirmed?
just fondly remembering when the slate was revealed and the Politics Knowers were like "well obviously he won't get most of these people through"

This is the most relevant article to NIH and research cuts I’ve seen.

Imagine if this was today , how many people would be saying “Why are we studying Gila Monsters and their impact on diabetes ? That’s wasted money !”

If each Treasury payee is a separate record, and there are, say, 68,000,000 social security payees (as is estimated), then at $5000 per violation, it seems like Elon could be penalized $340 billion if he unlawfully accessed their Treasury records...

VPNs, or virtual private networks, are standard technology for many people in authoritarian countries to shield their online activity and sidestep government censorship online.

Now, more Americans are getting a crash course in VPNs — because of TikTok, an app from an authoritarian country.
If you use a VPN for a TikTok ban, make sure it’s one you can trust
It’s almost impossible to figure out which VPNs are creepy or snake oil. You can trust these four options.

Consuming political content on TikTok is associated with being more Trump-y, more pro-Russia, and more antisemitic even after quite strong demographic/attitudinal controls.

From a content perspective R videos get more views than D and also R content is also more effective on per impression basis.

this is a big reason why the best kids' stuff is full of esoterica and references to stuff above your grade level; not only does it contribute to a sense of mystery around literature it pays off in these bombs of excitement later
I watched that as a kid and thought nothing of it, and years and years later when I finally came across the actual poem, it was like my brain did a backflip.
