Sad to hear of Val Kilmer’s passing. For me he’ll always be that bloke who married Joanne Whalley

Picked up “A History of the World in 47 Borders” by @jonnelledge.bsky.social at the airport yesterday. Fascinating. Well worth a read.

The spec for my M2 MacBook Air says it can support one external monitor.

I currently have it running with two external HD monitors, an iPad as an extra monitor, plus its internal monitor.

Here's the Arrange Display setting...

Word of Mouth on @bbcradio4.bsky.social hosted by the incomparable Michael Rosen, hosting the utterly brilliant geneticist & presenter @adamrutherford.bsky.social is a fascinating episode that attempts to unpick the language of genetics. Well worth a listen:

Hey @deck.blue I love your app, but I find if I leave the browser window open for a while, the columns freeze. Is there an easy way to refresh each column or do I just have to refresh the entire page? Thx

One job creates another. Check tyre pressures on my wife's car I discovered our rapid electric tyre inflator no longer works. So I had to get the manual tyre gauge from my car. Which is when I realised the door seal was coming loose. Her tyres are OK but I now have to fix my door seal & inflator...

Had a migraine attack yesterday while doing my Portuguese homework. I managed to go to choir last night and Portuguese class this morning, but I'm now feeling sh*t with pressure behind my eyes and a pain in my head if I stand up quickly or exert myself.

I think it'll be a quiet afternoon.

An illuminating and insightful read, as ever from DAG. If you don't subscribe to the FT go to google.com and enter the search "site:ft.com The coming battle between social media" (without the quotes) and you'll see the article which you can read without payment.

The coming battle between social media and the state

Behind the alignment of X and Meta with Trump is a cold business logic — and a position of weakness rather than strength

“In order to shoot off one email per week for a year, ChatGPT would use up 27 liters of water, or about one-and-a-half jugs… that means if one in 10 U.S. residents—16 million people—asked ChatGPT to write an email a week, it’d cost more than 435 million liters of water.”
AI doesn’t just require tons of electric power. It also guzzles enormous sums of water.
It also guzzles enormous sums of water.

I learned, via More or Less on
bbcradio4 (not on BlueSky) yesterday, that the cost so far of the UK junior doctors strike - mostly due to paying more expensive consultants to do their jobs during strikes - works out at £1.1bn - £1.2bn. 1/2

Well done Computer Weekly for sticking with the Post Office/Horizon issue, but it's a mystery to me why, more than 15 years since the story broke, (nearly 25 years since the problems began) and more than 700 unnecessary prosecutions, it took an ITV drama series to actually get the public enraged...

My vote for most irritating TV advert of the year goes to the EE advert with the woman picking up her phone in the most ridiculous places and going "aaah".

Second is tied betweenthe Amazon advert with the old ladies sledging and Kevin the f***ing carrot.

Any other candidates?
