“ICE’s raid on a Chicago apartment building and the ensuing ICE violence against civilians make clear that Trump has initiated an unconstitutional, brutal war against ordinary Americans.” Jen Rubin unpacks the unchecked savagery of Trump’s attacks.

Every posture leans to hatred.
Every word is to accuse and divide.
Every act is another opportunity to frighten.
Their flag is pretend superiority but waves to the fire wind of racism and bigotry.
Dread overlays the resistance but we must resist without end.
Maintain the goal of freedom to share.

FACT: Hitler and the Nazi Party repeatedly exaggerated or outright fabricated crime and unrest in order to justify taking over policing powers, centralizing control, and dismantling democratic safeguards.

Things are not good at the Washington Post, and they are going to get worse, much to my dismay and everyone's loss.

But the reporters there still continue to do good work, such as these exclusives today (gift links)

NOAA was developing a tool to help communities prepare for future rainfall. Trump officials stopped it.
The tool would have projected how climate change could affect rainfall frequency and intensity in communities across the nation.

Attacking education is one of the first steps in the fascist playbook. They want an uneducated populace that is easier to control. They want Americans to be saddled with debt, to keep them working instead of resisting.

We can't let them win.

Limit information to the public. Limit information to Congress. Feels very authoritarian… or should we say, regime-like.

The Tenth Amendment was designed to prevent exactly this. As Austin Sarat explains, Trump’s illegal use of the National Guard in California tramples state sovereignty and edges us closer to authoritarian rule.
Trump could upend the very structure of American government
If he gets away with using the National Guard in Los Angeles, the very basis of our constitutional order would be damaged.

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

"The worst of this political fever might be behind us, but academia will have to take strenuous action to restore its reputation as defenders of the free exchange of ideas," the Editorial Board writes. wapo.st/43TJiZf

For decades the NRA and other gun nuts told us that their guns were to protect us all from a tyrannical government. So a tyrannical government is here, they are all sitting on their asses, and the people who want gun control have taken to the streets to defy the tyrannical government instead.
