This is the exterior shot of this scene. That's Rudy Ray Moore's Cadillac. Sun Ra poster is for Jazz Showcase date. House is still there, 64th & Kimbark in Woodlawn.

She painted these during Hyde Park's urban renewal days, surrounding the house where she lived, when the doors of condemned buildings were used as worksite barriers.

My old man worked for Stans on Wall Street. Stans asked him to basically keep a second set of books,, my old man said GFY, quit, joined Merchant Marine. Dad went around the globe 7x, Stans went to prison in Watergate.
Today in 1959, Bureau of the Budget Director Maurice Stans told the National Security Council he’d been briefed by the Navy on the Polaris program and informed that when operational its 45 submarines—with 29 always at sea—“could destroy 232 targets, which was sufficient to destroy all of Russia.”

The memorandum details statements concerning the Polaris program at NSC meetings beginning in July 1957. The first paragraph says:
"An examination of pertinent NSC [National Security Council] actions back to June 1957 does not disclose any Action indicating Council approval of increased numberrs of POLARIS missiles based upon achievement of a break through of any kind."
The third paragraph, part of which is highlighted in yellow, summarizes what Stans told the NSC on August 18, 1959:
"August 18, 1959: Mr. Stans stated that he had a two and a half hour briefing on POLARIS in which he had been informed that the eventual objective of the POLARIS program was 45 submarines, with deployed at all times. With such a force, he was informed, we could destroy 232 targets, which was sufficient to destroy all of Russia. The total cost of such a program would be 7 to 8 billion dollars, and annual operating costs would be $350 million. An obvious question was suggested by this briefing—if POLARIS could do this job, why did we need other IRBMs or ICBMs, SAC aircraft, and overseas bases? Don't forget, the alderman of the ward in which this building sits had something to do with making this raid happen
NEW: @propublica.org investigated the Chicago apartment raid where kids were zip-tied and citizens detained for hours. They find:
- NONE of the arrested were criminally charged
- NO evidence the building was "filled with TdA terrorists."
- ZERO legitimate reason for DHS to rappel from a Blackhawk.

Oh and when in doubt, record. Pritzker pushed this and I thought wtf just RECORD? What do I know. It's powerful. There's a lot of footage of these pricks just saying fuck it and giving up under pressure, and the videos help a lot in many ways

An aside: Lake freighter traffic in Chicago is a fraction of what it once was (So. Chgo '74) but along the Calumet you can still see them pass through inc Alpena (oldest on the lakes) & the Arthur Anderson. Sometimes tie up close enough to the bridges you can talk to the crew (photos zeolite/gerard)
