The ongoing federal government shutdown continues to harm the people of Spokane. The deal currently on the table does not solve the problem, it only extends it, and Spokanites deserve better than short-term fixes.

These outreach teams are an essential piece of our plan. This is a great example of the partnership needed to make sustainable change. The key to long-term success will be continually improving coordination & communication between providers, social workers, medical professionals, & law enforcement.
New street outreach teams have made significant progress within their first 10 days of operation. The outreach teams cleared 96 encampments, with the majority of people accepting connection to behavioral health or housing services, including the navigation center. my.spokanecity.org/news/release...

Today, we celebrated On Track Academy's Schoolyard Forest, a place-based learning center. The forest was designed & built by students, with help from volunteers & community partners. If both the Spokane Schools bond & Spokane Parks levy pass, we will create at least 6 more outdoor learning centers!

@spokanecity.org is committed to connecting people to the resources they need, while also creating an enforcement mechanism for those who continually choose to violate the law. I am also proposing we give officers more discretion to cite those who repeatedly create public disorder.

Happy first day Fire Chief Williams, and happy retirement to former Chief Julie O'Berg!
Last night, Tom Williams was sworn in as the Chief of the Spokane Fire Department! Williams has served as Assistant Fire Chief for the department since June 2020. Prior to his time in Spokane, he spent 30 years in various fire service roles in Oregon. Happy first day Chief Williams!
