I'll continue using the fediverse as my main source of social media.
I am already happy with the content there and care more about getting the social web into mainstream than to be a bit more entertained today

📣 PSA: before trying to send code to merge into aosp (especially if you are implementing a gigantic feature) you need to have had a conversation with someone about it, or you may end up wasting a bunch of your time.

so I think their mistake was that they identified (correctly!) that algorithmic timelines are good for Not Very Online People, who are the majority of people online, but Very Online People prefer non-algo TLs and, crucially, they're the ones doing most of the posting, and they bring people with them
pretty amazing to see meta double down on algorithmic timeline for a year with threads, watch Bluesky grow very quickly, and then immediately make some changes to directly emulate Bluesky to cut that growth off

To be clear, we do have plans for scaling, we just kinda expected more than a couple days notice before getting blasted with a million new users a day.
The team is rapidly deploying fixes and new software to adapt. More servers in the mail.
