79-year-old Paul Bojerski was born to Polish parents in a WWII German refugee camp. His family legally emigrated to the U.S. when he was 5.

This is an example of how civil society silences itself under authoritarianism. The West Point alumni group announced the award in June, and then effectively canceled it in September. No explanation, just a vague sense that they are afraid of displeasing the regime.
