I think the key is diminishing these platforms substantially as far as the amount of time, attention and resources they get.

They are an organ in the body of the internet, essential and provide an important function but if your body became 90% kidney you’re fucked.

My crazy idea is social media should make income from referral links to other websites that are monetized through ads, subscriptions or purchases.

This alligns incentives so social is subservient to the open web and primarily for jokin and sharing and linking to places that actually make things.

looking close there is a (tiny) disclaimer saying that. but that could just be on all of them. there is no author given and the UI strongly implies it was posted by Anthropic. how can you actually tell or even know this one was?
