My wife had surgery the other day and I’m proud to report that the first thing she said when they woke her up from anesthesia is, “My husband is wonderful.”

Gotta say goodbye to my best friend for the past 8 years today. It’s the right time, but I’m broken beyond words. I love this creature more than I knew I was capable of. 💔

When you realize that the goal of most AI tech is to strip away expertise and create dependence on their tech, you really understand how insidious the whole industry is.
Bad AI supplanting human expertise is an issue that transcends any one field, but man—not many people on earth whose knowledge and dedication deserves respect like LIBRARIANS.
The long-running ideological war on libraries, education, and government workers is not separate from AI boosterism. It is the same ideological war on human knowledge and expertise. In some cases AI is being used to directly supercharge this effort:

I don’t watch Fox News but it was on the TV in a hospital waiting room a few years ago when my mother-in-law was having surgery. It was a Hannity segment in which he advised viewers to buy up beef and put it in the freezer because the Green New Deal would outlaw beef. 1/4

I hope the lesson is that being principled and fighting to convince people of your beliefs is infinitely better than constantly moving your policy around to be slightly appealing to a broader group of people. You can change people’s minds if your ideas are good and you communicate them effectively!

Submitting to speculative markets, the guidelines are like, “We pay a half cent per word, 12 people will read it, and there is no chance of awards. We are accepting 4 stories and we have just received 2,581 submissions during our 2-day window.”

I don’t even have my insurance through the ACA and my premiums would increase by 24%, and my deductible and out-of-pocket max would go up too. Maybe it’s time to go back to the “hope I die quickly without too many hospital visits” healthcare plan.

I have one of Anna’s pieces, the Korok on the right. It lives on my Legend of Zelda shelf, and it’s really well made! If you’re wanting to do Christmas shopping and support small creators, what are you waiting for?

Generally I support the Oxford comma, but in this instance, I would like to read it as them giving him a golden crown slathered with ketchup

Another one of the best things about Midna was making music with her. She has always loved my voice, both singing and speaking, and regularly jumped up on the keyboard just to boop me while I was playing. Here’s a clip from a Wilco song, but Ben Folds songs were always her favorite.

One of my favorite memories with Midna is the time I took a selfie with her and she started yawning, but it looked like she had a big smile. I sent it in to Jones Soda and they chose it to print on a label. Lots of people think their pets are pretty enough to be models. I know for sure mine is.

Got some bad news yesterday for my sweet Midna so I’m just gonna hold her a lot today 💔

One of the downsides of living in WV is that the closest pet neurologist is about 150 miles away. If you wanted to know how my day is going.

I love this cat so much. She’s the sweetest creature I’ve ever met. I just want her to be okay.

I'm so excited to be a part of the Tenebrous release schedule! I'd trust 10p with anything but song recommendations*

Rolled many small boulders up the hill for 2026 today, & I'm in awe at the variety.
Feels like such a trope-y answer—like a metal guitarist saying "yeah it's both our heaviest & most melodic album yet"—but it's also true.
Next year is bleak AF & Electric Neon.
Who's in for next year's book club?
🖤☠️

Got some bad news at the vet today, spare a thought for sweet little Midna. Hoping that her problems can be fixed with a surgery

I just know if I turned in a manuscript where “food assistance runs dry but there is still money to build the golden ballroom,” any halfway decent editor would tell me I’m being too on the nose.

Realizing just how many of my short stories are essentially “person with a crappy job trying to survive a slow-moving apocalypse.” I should stop keeping up with the news 😅

Anyone else have any issues with their cats’ eyes charging and then shooting out a destructive laser, burning down everything it touches?
