I’m the last person to tell anyone to read a novel as I haven’t read an adult novel in literally decades but I decided to read Pride and Prejudice to break out of my non-fiction habit and it will surprise no one who reads to learn that it is in fact incredible.

I saw Brian Wilson perform Smile the day after W was reelected. It helped carry me through what seemed then like the darkest political moment in my life. I'll never forget that feeling art can give you at its most transcendent, and how it can carry you through evil times like now.

Choose Me - what a deliriously odd little movie, like a scrappy little brother to Coppola’s One from the Heart. Sort of staggering in this moment to think of a major studio releasing anything like it.

One of my favorite things about Andor is how stupid and pointless all the deaths are. No big "top of the world" moments, no heroic sacrifices. Just people getting shot by idiots and in the back trying to run away.

The best part of the oscars are the technical award speeches and in particular those when the people they worked with are so thrilled because they genuinely love the people.
