Yeah that’s exactly why I haven’t moved to TRACE or something. I don’t have a standard second guess, my goal is also more 3s than 4s and I have a pretty good cushion atm.

The new Cure record is probably even better than you've heard it is, a minor miracle and just the record we need after a tragic end to the year.

This was finally the year I had a breakthrough with ELO's heralded El Dorado. Been trying to get into this for decades off the back of "I Can't Get It Out of My Head" but it was my newfound appreciation of post-Beatles McCartney, esp Ram, that at last found my way in to this gem.

As far as Dolly's crossover records from 1980 go, 9 to 5 is the one people rave about. But I genuinely love Dolly Dolly Dolly, which it's fair to say could be considered her Yacht Rock album. The production is incredible and she sounds great (duh); it's an easy upbeat listen with lots to discover.

Not sure why I missed this the first time around (probably because I was deep in babyworld in 2015) but Jain's Zanaka is a fun and sunny party with the glorious "Makeba" single as its anchor. Her more recent records have been good but this is a keeper.

I always admired Long Season by Fishmans but sunk very deeply into its grooves this year, including an amazing drive home late at night. A perfect record.

Here are some of my favorite music discoveries of 2024, starting with this incredible solo debut from Little Feat's Lowell George. He died a few weeks into the tour promoting it. No idea why this isn't better known, it's a country rock masterpiece (with a perfect cover and title).
