Whether healthy people people should take supplements is somewhat controversial. Many say they are unnecessary, however, studies show that athletes may benefit from pre-workout supplements. However, natural nutrition and hydration should take priority.

I plan to incorporate nutrition in my role as a future health professional by keeping in mind that the best diet is the one you’re willing to follow. This is crucial when discussing nutrition with patients, especially because there is no single best and healthiest diet.

One of the main things I look for in any nutrition post before I take what they it say as fact is proof. It's not always practical to cite everything, but here Dr. Frank makes a claim about the USDA, and it would have been nice if she also provided a link to her source.

@beh353.bsky.social #beh353
The USDA estimates 30% of the U.S. food supply ends up in the trash. Use it before you lose it! Bruised fruit? Use in a smoothie. Wilted veggies? Toss them in a soup. Leftover meat? Make a casserole. eatgathergo.org/recipe/mix-and-match-skillet-meal/ #FoodWastePreventionWeek

One thing I am going to look for in any nutrition post before I take what they say as fact is proof that the information is accurate. I will look to see if they cited their source. If so, I will go to the source and check if what the nutrition post claimed is true.

Women generally have less water in their bodies and metabolize alcohol more slowly, leading to higher blood alcohol levels. This makes them more vulnerable to alcohol-related health risks, which is why their recommended limit for drinks per day is lower than for men.

@beh353.bsky.social #beh353
Holiday drinks are fun, but remember: moderation is key! 1 drink/day for women and 2 for men is the recommended limit. Overdoing it can harm your sleep, mood, and health. Stay mindful and enjoy the celebrations! #RealWorldNutrition #HolidayBalance #MindfulDrinking

Fiber promotes satiety, making it a key nutrient for weight loss. When trying to lose weight, focusing on fiber-rich foods can help reduce overall calorie intake without feeling deprived. Fiber also supports heart health, digestion, and blood sugar control.

Tom decided to take action after his Black Friday chest pain, even though he "knew the beers and booze" would be good to cut out long before that. This demonstrates how behavior change isn't just about knowledge - it's about determination and commitment.

For me one of the biggest barriers to healthful eating is lack of time to plan, shop, prepare, and cook healthy foods. School keeps me pretty busy, and on top of that I work. I often get pizza for lunch at Papa's Pizza because it's convenient and saves me time.

Vitamin E protects cells from oxidative damage, supports immune function, and promotes skin health. Magnesium is an essential mineral involved in muscle function, nerve signaling, and energy production. Both nutrients contribute to heart health and overall well-being.

This week, we learned how supplements can make structure/function claims if they have a disclaimer. This vitamin C supplement has the disclaimer in the fine print, which most people are not going to read. I never noticed that this even existed on the bottle until today.

Your opinion really counts! In lecture, we learned the FDA extended the comment period for the use of "Natural" on labeling in response to requests from the public. Looks like they are continuing to engage with people on the terms, "Sell By" "Use By" and "Best By" too!

I researched the low FODMAP diet. The acronym "FODMAP" stands for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols. Essentially, these are carbohydrates that are difficult to digest. Therefore, limiting them gives the digestive system a rest

One of my favorite things to eat is a cheeseburger. One of the easiest ways to make a cheeseburger more nutrient dense is to use a whole grain bun instead of white bread. This is a way to get more vitamin B, vitamin E, healthy fats, fiber, minerals, and phytochemicals.

My 24-hour food recall was accurate in that I recorded everything I ate in the 24 hours. However, I usually snack, but because I knew I would have to record it I didn't snack. Because of this, my 24-hour food recall was not completely representative of my eating habits.
