I’m catching up on the leaders’ launch speeches today, starting with Poilievre’s, and one big thing I’ve noticed:

His emotional appeals are generally towards low-income folks (single mothers, struggling seniors) but his ACTUAL policy promises are almost all for industry.

Trickle down economics 🤢

As of February 2022, approximately 279 U.S. residents had died of COVID per 100,000 people, compared to about 94 in Canada.

We didn't flub it. That said, a COVID inquiry could be a positive thing.

When I called out Pierre Poilievre for refusing to disavow an endorsement by Alex Jones I was hammered with online threat/intimidation.
But in the House I received a standing ovation for calling out disinformation.
Except, of course from the Conservative gang.

Cons are screaming that PMJT has put a cap on O&G. Don't listen to this lie. There is NO cap on oil production. There is a cap on emissions. They want oil companies to invest in technology that reduces their emissions WITHOUT cutting production. We literally have record high oil production! #CDNpoli

Alberta has a culture where they always want to know that public servants aren't spending 1¢ more than is required, on anything. Offices should be small, meals should be cheap, compensation should be minimal. I'm *surprised* no one has asked how much 7 months of surveillance costs EPS operations?
We have a politicized policing problem in Alberta when we have police services that target journalists such as @duncankinney.bsky.social and progressive elected politicians (as she then was) such as @sphillipsab.bsky.social. We need far more accountability.
This is insane:

Edmonton Police authorized a *7 month* surveillance operation targeting a journalist critical of police and followed his family doing mundane things

This covert operation was supposedly necessary to determine who vandalized a statue honouring a literal WW2 Nazi

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing.

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.

Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.
