While this administration holds a theatrical press conference spreading alarmist disinformation about autism and Tylenol, it’s also quietly telling physicians to ignore what they say.

Here are data on the percentage of FY2024 appropriation committed to date in FY2025. Most ICs are well on track, but four ICs (NIMHD, NINR, NHLBI, NHGRI) still appear to be under 80%.

Note that values >100% reflect either a higher appropriation for FY25 or an increased % devoted to grants.

A huge shoutout to all the dedicated grants management specialists at the NIH who are working around the clock to push grants out before the Sep 30 deadline. And also to the POs responding to frantic emails.
Not an easy job under the best of circumstances and right now it's the pits.
Thank you!

I downloaded the data from NIH Reporter too soon. The large end of the month update had not occurred.

Here are the results as of this morning.

In my small corner of biology, I’m constantly reassured by how frequently we confirm main findings. And then when differences do show up, they very rarely end up being fraud, but instead tell us something important about differences in experimental design.
"a significant proportion of the results of federally funded scientific research projects cannot be reproduced by external researchers. "
