Media and Dems are still getting this badly wrong: Trump is deeply unpopular! Recent approval numbers:

38-54 (Quinnipiac)
39-60 (AP)
40-56 (Gallup)
41-58 (Reuters)
39-56 (Economist)

On the pod, @lakshya.splitticket.org explains these numbers brilliantly. Listen:

I had been considering buying a new car this year. However, the new tariffs have essentially just guaranteed that won't happen. Even if I could find something American made that would meet my requirements, the higher costs I'll be paying on other goods mean I won't have money left for that.

N.B. that the "US Right" depicted here is not a fringe movement, but is now the entire Republican Party, which is in charge of our fed government, many state governments, and a significant portion of our judiciary.

It not only *can* happen here, it *has* happened here.

This one was very tricky.

One one hand, the affected third-party libraries and applications are misusing the API, so we COULD have said "not our problem."

On the other hand, authorization bypass in some of these services is scary, and pushing a day-zero mitigation will hopefully help limit damage.
🚨 x/crypto/ssh: misuse of ServerConfig.PublicKeyCallback may cause authorization bypass

Common API misuse allows attacker to log in with one key, but appear to have logged in with another. Potentially affects services that look up users by key.

Partially mitigated in golang.org/x/crypto@v0.31.0.

MAGA is going to chase you over here. They'll chase you where ever you go on social media. They can't survive without making you miserable. Why do you think Truth social failed? They need conflict. Don't give it to them and don't engage. Bluesky has amazing block functions. Block them into the void.
The slow trickle of MAGA folks over here underscores how much their experience of online is entirely dependent on people getting mad at them. It also underscores how even they, given the option, would rather not hang out with themselves either.

The thing to remember is that we are not at the end of the American story.
And we all know that the heroes don’t prevail in the middle of the story.

This is the dark hour during which heroes are awoken, mustered, found, & forged.
Do not lose hope.
Gather strength & keep focused.

in any other medical context, results like this would qualify as a miracle - you just don't see this level of satisfaction even with completely uncontroversial, common medical treatments

there is simply no serious good faith argument that gender-affirming care hurts people - the opposite is true
A survey of more than 200 transgender and nonbinary youth who received gender-affirming medical care shows they were largely satisfied with the treatments they received, according to a study published Monday in JAMA Pediatrics.
Survey of trans youth reports high satisfaction with gender-affirming care
Trans youth survey by Princeton indicates those who received puberty blockers, hormones or other gender-affirming medical care largely did not regret receiving treatment.

Seeing a Heritage Foundation endorsement of something immediately tells me that it's hateful and harmful to minors.
If Heritage has endorsed a thing, a presumption is created that people of good will should beat that thing to death with hammers.
Heritage Foundation is pushing to get KOSA approved in the House, and the document they're passing around is pretty revealing. They admit that if Trump wins they can use KOSA to block abortion info: www.techdirt.com/2024/09/16/h...
