When we minimise a crime with words like "spurned lover", we take accountability away from the perpetrator and send the message that the victim was at fault for declining the advances of a man who killed her in cold blood.

Yup. Any law, any regulation, any system, it will have loopholes and those will be exploited by the unscrupulous. That doesn’t take away from why the law exists.

yeah basically this - people will exploit laws. There's no stopping bad people. But to come at women for alimony with no sense of how social justice works is crazy

elderly care, running errands. Is alimony exploited sometimes, of course it is, as with any law. It remains a guardrail for a section of women who do not have a paid job, find themselves in abusive marriages, cheated out of their prime earning years.

These men should do a round of family courts to understand just how many years it takes to make a guy agree to even pay basic child support. Ideally women should be independent and working. But women are also forced to quit their jobs after marriage and childbirth in countless homes.
