This is a job that for many years I did as a full-time employee for two different companies. And then I was suddenly laid off a couple years ago, and was told that a contributing factor was less work coming in to go around. And sure enough, as I have been freelance, it's only gotten worse.

I watched Bullet Train Explosion, remake/sequel to the Bullet Train film from the '70s that influenced movies like Speed. Great action & tokusatsu from director Shinji Higuchi.

Closed captions aren't just some "neat" additional thing to have. In some cases it's the only way many people are able to competently consume media. But fuck those people, am I right? Money is so much more important than people, just like with every other topic or issue in this world.

And why? There's no reason for this. My profession was full-time until mergers and AI began making my work "obsolete", except it's not even a GOOD replacement for human beings. AI can't even caption sound effects for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, which is half the fucking point of closed captions.

Welp, a second AI dub on Amazon has apparently been found, and it's a show that already had a perfectly normal (albeit non-union) dub: No Game No Life.

1) who produced this "dub?" amazon or aniplex or someone else?
2) who worked on it? someone had to engineer it. what software was used? there is ONE LINE of info, haha.

I FINALLY got an MVP play as Rocket Racoon in Marvel Rivals. It's a Thanksgiving miracle.

Also if youre screaming about CR and their subtitles but are silent on Amazon *dubbing an entire show* with AI then its clear you only cared because it effects your subs and not the entire anime localization sphere. A company with more money than god should not be dubbing using AI

I'm not even talking about this solely for my own sake, but for consumers, too--this destruction of function (which also happens to come at the cost of supporting human lives) should infuriate you. They are taking away a deeply necessary service, telling you they don't care if you need it or not.

A few years ago, CaptionMax was bought and absorbed by 3Play Media. And guess what! Today, they use AI in their workflow, because of course they do.

This shit is why I'm getting less and less work on anime and having to scramble to ask around with YouTubers for help letting me do their CCs just to pay my damn rent. There's enough anime to caption out there that I should not be fucking struggling.
After publishing this article, I've heard from many that CR seems to be using AI to produce dub CCs. Now, thanks to a slip-up CR had with episode 6 dub of The Banished Court Magician, we can say that with 100% certainty: Crunchyroll is using the AI service Ollang.com for its dub closed captions!
