I just saw a 20.00 paperback romance from a debut author and the way I yelled a bad word! Like no! No f-ing way!
once an eBook is more than $10, I will spend a few bucks more to get a paper copy. At least then I can share it with a friend.

Book peeps, particularly romancelandia who I just know are excellent at this, has anyone dig into Tertulia? Particularly the co-ownership aspect and ToS?

This!
Note: I will block every person who does the whole “RT if you agree” or “RT to say that <randomly popular sentiment” thing.

It’s a form of engagement hacking. It doesn’t really add anything. It allows bad people who have nothing to add accumulate large followings.

I was in a reading slump but now I am coming out of with so many things I want to read, not nearly enough time and a driving anxiety I will slump again. It is both joyous and unpleasant- a conundrum of conflicting feelings

@buriedbybooks.bsky.social is there a new place to get the sheriff’s blotter now that Plumas News is gone? The sun doesn’t have it and there are squatters in SG house that I am curious about how often PCSO has interacted with. I’m being nosy more than anything

In other news, the Journal of Pediatrics recently had a fascinating study looking at tons of other research on increasing mental health challenges with kids and found that... a huge factor is probably THE LACK OF SPACES FOR KIDS TO BE KIDS. www.techdirt.com/2023/10/26/n...
New Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Says Maybe It’s Not Social Media, But Helicopter Parenting ...
We’ve been covering, at great length, the moral panic around the claims that social media is what’s making kids depressed. The problem with this narrative is that there’s basically no real evide...

The people attacking libraries cannot imagine that children deserve autonomy. When we say that children should be able to read without coercion or fear, all they hear is “Other nefarious forces are grooming these children.” The movement is deeply anti-child. 📚
Above all else, this movement is about asserting complete domination and control over children.
