What I do not understand is how there's still so much money being poured into new fossil fuel projects. It's a dying industry because there is no way that extractive energy will ever be as efficient as renewable energy. Sunlight and wind are literally free, after all.
Lot of people are already passing this around with the usual "WHY ISN'T ANYONE DOING ANYTHING" shrieks, while ignoring the fact that the article literally says that this is a *significant* decrease from the warming that we were on track for even a few years ago.
World still on track for catastrophic 2.6C temperature rise, report finds
Fossil fuel emissions have hit a record high while many nations have done too little to avert deadly global heating

What I did not know until today is that NetEase, one of the biggest games companies in the world with 30k employees, is side-hustling in organic pig farming.

These Danes are wild. They build new buildings by covering the whole site in a big tent and then working indoors, dry & warm. Never seen such a thing before. Is this normal nowadays?

New version of that airplane image just dropped. Even has the same colour for the same kind of information.
All those flags ... that's a pretty challenging golf course.

the twin apotheoses of Cartesian dualism
It's kind of fascinating to me that two of the prime obsessions of the 21st century science are "meat without mind" and "mind without meat"
If people want to do this, we need to learn how to make a bunch of enzymes at scale and it may actually not be possible for cheaper than real meat for a long time

This is absolutely correct and the reason why we should have built a lot of AI to reflect exactly that. Sadly we built a system of the world that rewards monopolies instead. I am still maintaining that it's not wrong to do large-scale statistical analysis per se. We just built the wrong kind.
A big reason proc gen feels so different to AI in spite of superficial similarities is exactly this!!

Proc Gen systems reflect the interests and creative preferences of the tool makers, whereas AI is catch-all sludge that reflects no specific point of view. It’s not remotely the same!
In case anyone ever asks, I *have* written a material generator and a music generator for Eldritch 2, but that's not AI. That's me taking all the things I personally know about those things, and writing my own tools to make the process a little faster and easier for myself. It's still 100% me, baby.

Stay young. Bleib jung. Bliv ung. Personally my brain is more of a "tower of babel" as it's constructing the one language to rule them all (in Dunkelheit zu binden) but, hey, others might get mental milage out of becoming multilingual. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Want a younger brain? Learn another language
A vast study suggests that being multilingual can slow down cognitive ageing.

And so it begins (and every beginning is an end). If this won’t burst the bubble, what will?
SoftBank sold its entire stake in Nvidia, pocketing $5.8 billion ahead of a rash of planned investments by founder Masayoshi Son to build his own sphere of influence supporting artificial intelligence.
SoftBank unloads Nvidia stake for $5.8 billion in surprise move
The Tokyo-based company now boasts a portfolio that includes some of the world’s most sought-after names in artificial intelligence: OpenAI and Oracle.

Interesting that all the big companies still retain control of their technology stack by building in-house engines. In my opinion open source engines like Godot, LÖVE and Luxe are more similar to those than Unity. They are just communally developed engines with source code access for everyone.

Once again I find myself on the second place in my own game. How delightful (and also it means that I won't have to delete my scores by hand after playing every time).

I've been getting into cryptic crosswords with @alphachar.bsky.social and I fear it is very alluring to only write social media messages that could also have a second layer of meaning. I will try not to but there's something very evocative about the tone of voice of cryptics.

I will add a few more modifiers to our Daily Run mode but there's already a guarantee of 2600 possible combinations. Should keep things interesting for a while (and impossible to test fully).

Do you have a go-to author you get another book by when you run out of stuff to read? Mine is Anthony Burgess because even his lesser known books usuaully turn out to be absolute bangers. His level of craftsmanship is so high that it guarantees satisfaction on sentence level.

I've just finished Expedition 33 and here's a luke warm take. The music is hauntingly beautiful and I'm a sucker for a convoluted story because it's less boring than being the chosen one over and over again. That being said it felt like a game that mostly made very safe and conservative choices.

Developing a slight obsession with Dinner Time Live with David Chang because I, too, refuse to measure anything. He says it's laziness but there's also just a lot of pleasure in being surprised by your own creation and the suspense it adds to the cooking process is delightful for me too.

Watched a TV show where someone punched in a passcode for a long time and then a CIA operative was explaining that with "they typed over a minute, must be a multifactor-password" and I don't get why some Hollywood writing is so lazy.
