in the past, leftward-leaning folk were tied together by one uniting force: progress

that was Obama’s schtick. Social, tech, economic, any kind of progress will do

now it feels like the left and right are fighting over which kind of *regress* is better

seems like someone will probably win

then you tell me how many more fucking times you think you can take!
I get that 3 deaths is ofc sad but unimportant to people like this, but if I had a superpower it would be the ability to force anyone who thinks 3 is an acceptable amount of infant death from preventable disease to be not only in the room every time a family is informed, but to be the one informing.

look I struggle to Believe but listening to people blame what men write down "about God" as some uniquely bloody/evil origin point behind the absolutely horrific shit human beings have done/do to each other grates atp. no. we did those things bc we are still just animals, owning that is more honest,

insisting faith cannot be a deeply important, transformative, or a force of good in culture or community still sounds about as ahistorical and ignorant of the psychological science of belief as denying that religion was the fabric of the banner men hung over their killing fields for millennia but ok

the smug satisfaction here is actually insufferable. anyway as a bay area native who lived there until 6 months ago, for my entire fucking life, they are welcome to just not come back

this is what you get when you tolerate the idea for decades that what was bad about the Nazis was that they were "intolerant of different people" or that they sought to expand or dominate and that was their main issue

*they were antisemites. they hated, specifically, Jews.*
sometimes you just need to take a step back and marvel at the absurdity that is the left-NIMBY mindset

these are not normal, rational people. they have descended into a bespoke form of madness

it's very funny interacting with youngins on social media not only bc if you've been on it yourself as an adult human since, potentially, before they were born. they have no idea how silly they sound saying "you're making up someone to be mad at" when you've witnessed it innumerable times, for years

The difference between bullying and strongly enforcing standards is whether the point is to enforce standards or enforce the right to enforce. Bullies want the right to enforce and the "issue" is only the tool to do so.

Most of them would balk at this because it's not specifically their intent, despite being the archetype of a Poaster that says that intent is neutralized by harmful outcomes,

to defend bullying.

spectacular display of mental gymnastics I HAVE WITNESSED inb4 "you're making up a person to be mad at"
For most of these people, the politics is the means to achieve bullying; the bullying is not the means to achieve politics.

I worry that it's being thoughtlessly passed around memetically as a stand-in for just not making nice with people. But there isn't actually a clean binary where all behavior toward people is either glazing or bullying, and it's reductive enough to be a problem.

“Bullying” is bad by definition. It’s not a value neutral tool to be deployed positively toward good ends. It’s so fucked up that people want so badly to reclaim this thing, and are so eager to do it that they want to brand things that aren’t bullying as bullying.
"Some people deserve to be bullied" is always wild to see because it's so deliberately childish as to make it difficult to imagine the person saying it has the moral capacity of an adult human being.

can you believe
and I find it beyond frustrating and very much a problem! but what's crazy is... and they don't tell you this....

you can just not like stuff. it doesn't HAVE to be systemic oppression/narcissistic abuse for you to be legally and ethically allowed to not like it! these Poasters must not know
there's no orders of magnitude for most Poasters when it comes to like... human mistakes and malice. the same people saying ethics can't be relative will find any context, seek out the most likely thing to read as problematic, and correlate it to systemic neglect tantamount to lynching or work camps

like the misdirect to "people shouldn't spend money there, it's up to us!" shit avoids how few regulatory reforms started, gained steam, or ended with attempting to shaming consumers, even when it was totally justified! there is a reason we only had prohibition for 13 years before fuckin giving up
I was under the impression the burrito taxi discourse had kind of... you know. Fizzled out because it's stupid. on all sides. There's nothing wrong w getting things delivered, nor with people being paid to deliver - you're rightfully mad at the app that employs them, focus on that man.
