Analytical AI is doing amazing things in science and medicine. Generative LLMs are theft. Do not conflate the two.
This is a prime example of:
-misleading headline
-missing context (gives rate of false negatives but tools with high false negatives are used in medicine all the time, so that rate might not be significant)
-use of "AI": conflating generative AI with the analytical AI that's widely used in medicine
About two-thirds of patients who were flagged by the AI stethoscope as potentially having heart failure did not actually have it.

Also if someone is at #MuC2025 and wants to say hi, I'm around all the time, in a Qubes T-Shirt and vacillating between my terrible German and apologetic English!

(Hi bsky, long time no see) currently I'm at #MuC2025, and its such a fascinating adventure. Very different from the hacker world. But also, can we adopt "everyone gets a PET bottle and there is water with/out lemon/mint/cucumber available"

I'm uncomfortable with the inevitable "his work was always crap" because it seems to say "you can tell who the predators are by how well they write" and ... no no you absolutely cannot, that's the whole point.

Hey bluesky folks, what backup apps or services do you really like UX-wise? I'm looking for inspiration with regards to improving QubesOS's backup system, and my own backup experiences throughout different systems have been pretty miserable - but is there something you do like?

i think a truly anarchist society is a very bad thing

but a society without anarchists is also a very bad thing

and out of the two only the second one is a realistic possibility

Tomorrow at 4pm in Saal YELL at #38c3 I'll be giving a talk about hackers, UX and why those two things can go great together: events.ccc.de/congress/202...

If you want to hear some arguments why hackers should care about UX, please come by! (or listen online, also works)

Over the last couple of years, I have been working on making Qubes OS - a secure operating system - more usable for both hackers and the less technically brilliant users. It has been a very interestin...

When starting with doing UXy stuff with Very Smart Hackers, I thought my biggest struggle would be convincing them to do new, creative stuff.

Actually it's far harder to convince them to not do wild, creative stuff nobody else does but it's easier to code than established #ux patterns.

I feel this passage in my Eastern European soul
See Anna Wierzbicka's Cross-Cultural Pragmatics, p. 116.

It is a major cultural difference and source of misunderstandings between Anglo English speakers and Eastern Europeans!

"Disrupt" is code for "Destroy reliable established services so that money previously widely distributed now funnels into a single source." Just like "AI" is code for "Mine the work humans did in the past so we don't have to pay them for their work in the future." That's why VCs like both words.
“Disrupt” is a very Silicon Valley word. Every time I see it crop up in a business-case, my bullshit-detection hackles go up.

Went and done a talk at #fosdem about how bad UX can be bad security - it's not technical at all, more about how humans work and how we can think about secure stuff better in light of that.

The best talk on #37c3 so far, for amusement value and for sheer tech amazingness. The hack was MAGNIFICENT.

Being multilingual is like: how the hell do I say "a conference accepted my talk" in my native language? I can say that in English, I can do it in German, but trying to tell my mom why I'm happy ended up in a blarglewarlgewordsbehard

For the first time in what, 10 years? Chaos Communication Congress tickets didn't sell out in seconds. Wow. The post-inter-whatever-pandemic world is different. (also I can't wait, I missed it so much)

Wrote something on how security and usability are sometimes considered to be contradictions, and that's really not true. (also, yay Prototype Fund, it's such a great thing)
Security vs Usability: A Fake Dilemma - Prototype Fund
Security and Usability is often labeled as a contradiction. Marta, whose working on Qubes OS Device Management, shows why this isn't the case and one depends on the other.

this is 100% true and also why so much of fancy literature is middle aged literature professors having affairs
"My work is superior because I make people see the abyss of sorrow that is human experience"--bitch they *already know that* which it's why it's so easy to evoke that even your story of a middle aged literature professor having an affair can do it.

The most frustrating people to talk with are those who start with an absolute claim, and then, when challenged, immediately turn around to say "yes you're right!" and then state the exact opposite of their initial claim. And I'm just... I actually don't agree with either. Things are complex. Please.
