Hi @bsbibotany.bsky.social do you have an update on getting records onto the database? This has been mentioned again in the local botany whatsapp group.

Hi, would just like peoples thoughts on this.
Several Years ago I tagged along on a visit to Anston Stones Wood.
Noticed this on a high rock outcrop and pointed it out as Brittle Bladder Fern, which I had seen before in Derbyshire.

@octopus.energy I noticed something called givback and wondered if its worth trying?
Have batteries (for solar) and would like to help by discharging power when its most needed

Help needed. Yesterday I noticed a small upright shrubby looking plant.
Went to look and it had a restharrow like flower though mainly in seed, got hold of it for a picture and ouch, unexpected spines. Is it spiny RH? Never seen one, or something else?

I promise not to ask too often, but if you could help Small Son and I raise funds for The Miscarriage Association we'd really appreciate it.

We are going to be doing a sponsored walk on the 12 October and all donations are very welcome via our fundraising page.

Is it time to leave facebook when Lee Anderson and Elon Musk like your comment?
Does that mean you are added to the list?

@robinince.bsky.social Yesterday after seeing so much negative stuff in the world I noticed this and it made me feel better.

Noticed some clumps of bearded couch next to a stream in a wooded area. Decided to use iRecord to put a record in
and as I was doing so it came back with Brachypodium sylvaticum as the most likely candidate with elymus caninus second choice. @bsbibotany.bsky.social

In the past 15 years soft shield fern has started turning up in and around Sheffield.
You wouldn't know this from the distribution map brown squares are records from 2020 onwards and mainly showing in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire @bsbibotany.bsky.social

@bsbibotany.bsky.social Is it possible to produce a uk wide distribution map of records from 2020 onwards? With separate colours for vc recorder records and other peoples?
I am trying to understand why the few records I send in never appear on the mapping.

Doubt I would have noticed Water Chickweed if it wasn't in flower and it's the first time I have seen this plant. Last week. at Woodhouse Washlands, Sheffield. #WildFlowerHour

@plantlifeuk.bsky.social Hi. I have been concerned about plant records for the last year or so. If we want to conserve plants we need data - records; and also access to them for people who need to know what is on the ground when making decisions.

@octopus Do you have an import tariff for charging home solar batteries overnight from the grid in winter like charging an electric car.
I have an export tariff that is working well and would like to keep. I would also like to keep control of my own battery as much as possible

@bsbibotany.bsky.social some of my plant records are taking a long time to transfer into the BSBI database. I only realised when looking at online mapping, several months is ok, but is it acceptable to wait for years?

@robinince.bsky.social Hi Robin. Have you encountered this book, The Light Eaters ? Someone recommended it but the cover seems to suggest plant intelligence and that rings alarm bells. Is it worth looking at or not do you think, if you have heard of it

@robinince.bsky.social I always like reading or listening to your books. I wasn't expecting this one to resonate quite so much. Weird?, yes, I remember borrowing books on everything from the library as a kid rather than playing football. Thanks for sharing so much, its really helped.

This week Hitchin Nature Network launches the Great #Hitchin Bee #Orchid Hunt.

We need your help to map Hitchin's Bee Orchids. Pls send email to hitchinnaturenetwork@gmail.com incl. co-ordinates on what3words.com. If they're on Council land, they've agreed not to mow them when they are flowering.

Hi Linden.
Do you know what the difference is between Sasa palmata and Pseudosasa japonica? Someone just asked if the plant he found is one of those

Surprised to see an Earwig with her eggs at this time of year.
This is soil along side of a plant pot that was exposed when I tried to clear pot of weed seedlings and pot fell away.
I have replaced the pot to keep them safe
