I am interested in the why. Do you have a link to that please

To be honest I am getting to the point of why bother recording anything if the records just go in the massive backlog pile

I think maybe its not about a person but more about the system that needs updating in some way.
On the the BSBI app I have records from several VCs not just one, that have been sat on there for many many months.
The time delay matters in case of a query.

The audiobook is lovely

Vegetarian bees happily pollinating flowers
as they have done undisturbed for centuries
are 'named' evil looking before being wiped out by greedy humans wanting more stuff.....

What are they mining btw Coal or some other essential item

It is interesting.
I do wonder though how much data is missing from the analysis.
Do you have figures for the amount of records sat on BSBI apps not added to main records, never mind those on iRecord, iNaturalist & local records centres?

Just looked at ones I have on my phone. This does the job

Its in a very inaccessible place.
I don't see how it can be anything else, there were about six near the top of a limestone rock overhang.

Ok. I now see that I can't use that as it's not available to Octopus customers.
However if I understand you correctly I hadn't realised I could help with saving sessions by exporting during that period.
In future I will set my invertor to export during saving sessions to help out.

I was unsure about young people, the kind of why not wait to make sure idea.
After reading my view changed, though it seems at first a cautious approach, reading peoples experiences I was made aware of the suffering this causes.

This is my position.
Last week though I realised its just my opinion and maybe more information needed.
Visited Juno Books and the very helpful member of staff suggested a couple of books, one short enough that it didn't feel daunting.
After reading I changed my view somewhat.

Just found this in "A Flora of the Sheffield Area" (1988)

Yes, must have been relying on flowers and habit before. The blunt/ truncated leaf tip was a surprise even though I have seen Common RH lots of times

I sent the record to Rotherham BRC and Paul replied with some useful info

"Going back to the historical records there is one from Kiveton, ‘by the rail sides’, between 1845-1884, attributed to Amos Carr (see: Amos Carr - Wiki)."

Found some Common restharrow leaves for comparison
October 8, 2025 at 11:17 AM
Also the leaves don't have the abundant glandular hairs of repens (although the pods are clearly very hairy!).

Stace mentions the hairs on the stems but this feature may not be that reliable

The plant crib also says spinosa has wings shorter than keel - which your photos do show."

"Looking at the leaves in your photos & very upright habit it does look like O. spinosa.
The photos do seem to show that the leaf tips are quite sharp pointed and not blunt-ended or emarginate like repens. The teeth either side of the tip are nearly all quite a bit shorter than the one at the tip.

Thank You.
Louise Hill (VC63 recorder) sent me some detailed info on the species, I just wasn't sure about some of the leaf tooth counting, will try and make an effort to go find local repens to compare leaves.

These are her comments on it from iRecord

Its just for myself trying to get my head around how difficult this thing is to identify, not at all straightforward
October 4, 2025 at 7:54 AM
Thanks Jo. I did that yesterday on bsbi maps to show Ranger how unusual it is around here. This was at Kiveton east of Sheffield and I there is a recent record not far away over the county border in Derbyshire.
I also contacted VC recorder who was very helpful and I think accepted the record.

I have seen common locally so will go have a look. Hope it still has some leaves left
October 4, 2025 at 7:41 AM
Will need to find a common restharrow to compare as I am still not getting the tooth count and seeing the difference might help
