On this day in 1929, Terry Sawchuk was born in Winnipeg.
In his Hall of Fame career, he won four Stanley Cups, four Vezinas and is regarded as one of the greatest goalies in NHL history. His 445 wins and 103 shutouts were records at the time of his death in 1970.

On this day in 1904, Bobbie Rosenfeld was born.
She became one of Canada's greatest athletes, winning championships in nearly every sport along with Olympic gold and silver.

On this day in 1943, the Battle of Ortona ended.
The battle was fought between Canadian and German troops near Ortona, Italy. The battle was a victory for Canadian troops but saw the death of 1,375 Canadians.
Among those in the battle was Farley Mowat.

On this day in 1763, John Molson was born in England.
He came to Montreal in 1783 where he started up a brewery three years later. He served as the president of the Bank of Montreal, and invested to build Canada's first public railway and steamship.

Yonge Street is one of Canada's most famous streets.
It started as a strategic route to protect Upper Canada from an invasion by the USA and was designated by Guinness as the "The Longest Street in the World" until 1999.

On this day in 1918, Georges Vezina of the Montreal Canadiens became the first NHL goaltender to record an assist. Vezina had made a save and passed the puck to teammate Newsy Lalonde who went up the ice and scored.

On this day in 1886, Florence Lawrence was born in Hamilton.
Described as the "first movie star", she appeared in over 300 films during her career. Known as the Biograph Girl at the height of her fame in the 1910s, her career slowed down in the late-1920s. She died in 1938.

On this day in 1954, Tony Rosato was born.
Raised in Halifax, Ottawa and Toronto, he is best known for his time as a cast member of SCTV and Saturday Night Live. He also voiced Luigi on The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and appeared as Arthur on Night Heat. He died in 2017.

On this day in 1945, John Till was born in Stratford, Ontario.
He started his career playing guitar in Ronnie Hawkins band and was a member of two of Janis Joplin's bands. After Joplin's death, Till moved back to Stratford. He died in 2022.

On this day in 1913, Lou Jacobi was born in Toronto. After starting his acting career on Broadway in the 1950s, he appeared in many films over the next four decades.
He has a star on Canada's Walk of Fame and was a voice inspiration for Dr. Zoidberg on Futurama.
He died in 2009.

Twilight falls on Kilcooley Abbey, Tipperary.

Kilcooley is one of Ireland’s finest medieval Cistercian abbeys and is a wonderful example of the Gothic architectural style.

It was founded in 1182 after a grant of land to the Cistercians by Domnall Mór Ua Briain King of Thomond

A Kingdom & capital city (Canterbury) named after the Iron Age Celtic tribe the Cantiaci

The tribe were the first in Britain to have coins, and first became known to Julius Caesar by lining the White Cliffs of Dover in Chariots, completely painted blue to challenge his invasion
